What to do when different doctors tell you to eat different things?

A small orange, a handful of blackberries and probably about a cup of veggies split between 3 meals is doable for me with calories 650-800 and carbs under 40 and protein between 60-80.  i don't do any processed food so all my carbs are fruit and veg.  it takes a little creativity but very little.  i prepare meals that incorporate veg or throw tomatoes and mushrooms into some egg whites.  i sometimes do something like a cauliflower casserole and have that as a stand alone snack if I'm low.  i make turkey chili for the week and put a bunch of celery in it along with onions, tomatoes, mushrooms.  crock pot chicken with green beans, carrots, artichoke hearts, or throw in a cup of salsa.  If you look at your day and think i have to incorporate this you will find a way.  Weight loss is great but preventing cancer is better.  you can do this.  maybe you will need to add another feeding.

I am a band to sleever and i could not get any fruit or veg passed my band and i hated it.   I decided when i was going to get sleeved i was going to have balance  and so that was my mindset.

I eat a lot of "lettuce rollups". Meats, cheese, chicken/tuna salads all rolled up in romaine lettuce or bib lettuce leaves. I'm a lettuce snob so I'm picky about what type of lettuce I consume. I have capacity issues with raw spinach for whatever reason, but it sits way heavier in my stomach and takes way longer to move out than other lettuce varieties.

Oh, marvelous suggestion!  I JUST finally figured out how to make low carb bread too, lol.  I love lettuce as wraps, and that would help to get in a little green leafy goodness.  I agree about the spinach- at first I loved that it was filling because it helped me to keep calories lower.  Now, it may be a bit more of a challenge.

I am almost 6 months out and have tried to get a balanced diet as soon as I could add veggies back. I think it is so important for a variety of health reasons and I dont feel good if I just eat meat. I add some spinach into my egg whites in the am (its cooked but just slightly so you still get some fiber), carry a bag of raw veggies in my car to snack on during the day, try to eat a salad at one meal, etc. You can get the produce in if you work on it. I drink a protein shake in the morning so I start off with extra protein and have room for the veggies during the day. Same with fruit - maybe a1/4 of an apple or pear with a piece of cheese, berries with some yogurt. My surgeon recommends about 64 gm protein per day which I can hit most days. My goal with getting this surgery was to be able to eat a healthy balanced diet. You will be able to get more in with time too - looks like you arent that far out yet. We need more than just protein to be healthy!

I think you are right.  I was just going to add it in at one meal- makes much more sense to do very small amoiunts all day long.  Duh.  Tomorrow I am going to try to sprinkle in small amounts- should be lots of vareity at the various holiday meals I will partake in :)  Thanks for the suggestion :)

I just started having these smoothies for bfast sometimes- I'm further out than you, but you could probably sip on this throughout the AM and get lots of your daily quota:

1 C milk (or water)
1 C frozen whole strawberries
small handful spinach (fresh)
1 scoop vanilla protein powder

blend it all up- yuuuumy and not spinach-y at all- try it!  Mostly tasted like a strawberry-vanilla smoothy/shake.  The frozen berries make it really creamy and good- could even eat it with a spoon.  :)

Good luck!

Ok, I have to say it- spinach in the smoothie strikes me as disgusting.  However, once upon a time I was big into juicing and very tolerant of that type of thing.  I also totally trust in what you are saying, and I am totally gong to try this.  What a perfect way to get in fruit and veg and protein.  I don't have vanilla protein powder, but plenty of natural.  I will try that with some sugar free vanilla Torani.  Thankis for the suggestion!

My surgery team wants me eating protein, fruits and veggies, with refined carbs consumed sparingly.

Early out, they told us to take 3 bites of protein and 1 bite of fruit/veggies until you are satisfied.  It works really well.

I also believe it is critical to have balance....here are links to a few products I think may help at least until you find a way to fit them in at their whole form. I am sure you can find similiar products that are just as good....I am just most familiar with this brand....excellent product
