I had a gyno appt and saw the physicians assistant since my regular dr. was booked up and i didnt want to wait. Anyway, they were updating my chart and I said note that I'm having WLS in July for my chart. So later when she came in the room she says, "are you dead set on having surgery?" I just looked at her funny and said yes. She then says well you dont need surgery, you need a low carb diet only. I got pissed immediately and said I'm not doing your low carb diet, I've already tried it. Then she said, well your obviously not changing your eating habits, so WLS is not gonna work for you either, its not a magic miracle.... I GOT very mad and said, im having surgery, end of discussion, so change the subject. She didn't say anything else.

This is the first time this lady ever met me, she dont know me or my weight history, or dieting history. I'm so freaking irritated about her and her comments. As a matter of fact my chart was brand new, bc its the first time i been there in 3 years, so none of my documented weigh ins were even on the chart. I know I need low carb, i know its not a magic miracle **** I hate people.

Thanks for letting me vent!!!!!

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I'm quite sure you're MUCH more versed in WLS than she is.  You know what you need....F her :)

As a medical professional I can tell you she was WAY out of line, like.. fire-worthy out of line, to confront you with a personal opinion involving something in your chart.  Major major no-no.

You may have been embarassed but I hope you will call tomorrow and speak with the office manager about your experience or write a letter to the manager. She will keep on harassing others if no one reports her.

As far as people telling you that you dont need surgery, it still makes me snicker. I always heard "you're not that fat/big" "cant you just do it on your own?"

F* that! No one else had to trudge around in my coffin of a body. And now that I see the pictures, Yes! I WAS THAT FAT! So if I listened to everyone elses uninformed opinions id still be 260 pounds and miserable and working my way to diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea.

Sometimes you just have to drown out the haters!

dont let fools get you side tracked...in other words...dont give them the satisfaction of ******g you off...you have made an informed decision for yourself and who gives a crap what anyones opinion is about it.

trouble is she didnt bother to educate herself on the subject before she decided she was in a position to educate others.

good luck to you ...stay strong

I had the same thing. But instead of it coming from a physicians assistant, it was the lady who dealt with insurance billing at the WL surgeons office.

I also had clinic doctor tell me she thought my decision to have surgery was very wise, regardless of my lower BMI. Opinions are just that, opinions. Don't be angry, she's obviously stupid, and couldn't make it through med school to be an RN or a real doctor.

I agree that you should report her unsolicited medical opinions.

Same crap happened to me yesterday. I went to my PCP and in the triage room the nurse said you didn't need that surgery your really not that big. I looked at her as if she was retarded and said will you please look at my chart. Then the B$tch realized i have lost 60 pounds since my last visit. she took my blood pressure and it was 112/54 and on last visit it was 170/98 she then took my blood sugar and it was 84 my last visit it was 190
After that she apologized to me and told me what a good choice I had made. But I was still a little pissed at her and told her flat out she should get the facts straight before judging people. She then put her nose in the air and I walked out the triage room.

These are the people who think weight loss surgery is the easy way out. Medical professionals are some of those people, unfortunately. If she isn't a bariatric surgeon, her opinion is worth nada, zero, zilch.
