Alright, so I thought I could tolerate the big stuff before the liquids or the mushies! Wrong...Wrong..Wrong!!! If you are thinking about it DONT DO IT! I call myself a couple of bites of egg salad my husband fixed for his lunch this morning, and almost immediately, my stomach felt like I ate a Bison, and then I felt like heartburn was launching and low and behold the infamous regurgitation like Ive never in my entire life! Im better since I got rid of it, but my GOD...who knew it would be this extreme! I will never test my sleeve like that again! Back to my sip..sip..sip..walking and resting. Oh and for those who have their negative opinions on what happened, please do not share...I feel bad enough and negative comments are not consoling, they're just a way for people to vent on their own downfalls. Thanks!

I've done that with a couple of foods before and it is not a fun experience! At least you learned your lesson early! Hope you felt better quickly!

When I was 2 weeks post op and ready to go to mushy food I thought I would try some chili.  I had heard in the nutrition class that it was great to eat for us VSG folks.  It was full of protein, went down easy, etc.  So I got a can of chili, opened it up and had a small bowl.  I thought it was awfully spicy.  I'm used to eating Wendy's chili which is kind of mild at best unless you put the chili season packet in it.  It was going OK at first.  It stayed down well enough but it did feel like it was burning my stomach a bit.  Later on, I had a hot dog.  I had also heard that they were good to eat.  That just set me over the edge.  This was all way too much for 2 weeks post op!  Hot dogs always did give me indigestion and heart burn and never did quite agree with me before surgery.  I'm not sure why I thought it would be OK to eat then?  I guess cause they said in class it was good to eat and I wasn't thinking.  sigh ....

Ever since then, I developed TERRIBLE acid and heartburn.  I never had any trouble with it before .. EVER.  Now I'm on Nexium in PM and Prilosec in the AM and I still have to take Maalox several times a day when I feel the acid in my stomach.  I hope this stops eventually but yeah ... I agree ....

TAKE IT SLOW!

Stay away from hot dogs!  I know someone that is a 14 months post op and still can't tolerate them.  Its the only food he said that still makes him sick.  He can stomach everything else now.

That'll teach 'ya!

That's why we have to go to Nutritionists and learn that we have to first drink, than go to pureed, than to soft and then to regular foods. Everything has it's time (about two weeks of each process).
DO NOT TRY AND RU****! Even now at 7 months I'm still learning how to eat slow....it's rough but take your time. Your tummy will thank you in the long run!!

Best of luck! Try a GasX Strip to calm your stomach down. The mint will make it feel better.

I had to try that out too.  During the pureed stage I'd choose a food on my food plan, but found myself refusing to blenderize it.  I felt like I was "sneaking" the unpureed food.  The funny thing is, why was I "sneaking" food?  I was all alone!  The only one that suffered was me, and boy Howdy did I suffer (chili is still not my friend).

I believe it is part of my compulsive eating rearing its ugly head - I'm playing mind games with myself.  I remember when I was on WW in my early 20s, and had made a batch of brownies.  First off, why did I bake brownies at all if I couldn't eat them?  So I sneaked.  While my husband was out of the house I sat with the entire plate and sliced little bits of the edges of each brownie.  I guess I thought that wouldn't count, and no one would notice.  I'm now smart enough to realize that I am in charge of every bite I put in my mouth, but undoing 5 decades of crazy thinking about food is going to take some time.

Hang in there, I'm sure you'll do fine.
