Did anyone have plantar fasciitis before surgery? Did it get better after surgery?

I have plantar fasciitis and every 3-4 months I had to get cortisone shots in my heels which would completely help. I also through out all my shoes and bought shoes specifically for plantar fasciitis from footsmart online. They look just like ordinary shoes but offer the support that I need.

I have lost almost 60 pounds and 34 of that was pre-op. I must say that I have had no problems with my heels in over 3 weeks now plus my feet have not gotten swollen either. That much extra weight that I had I'm sure affected my heels. I still do not go bare foot or wear flip flops.

Praying your heels get and feel better too!

I have it now and am having surgery in the next few months so I am hoping it gets better too. The top of my right foot hurts where the tendons connect to the toes and the left heel hurt. My podiatrist gave me some topical cream to put on. It is very uncomfortable especially after a long days work. I asked my dr if this is related to weight gain and he said no it was mechanics. He said he treats serveral athletes with it. But I imagine once I lost about 60 lbs I will feel better.

I had it for a long time, but was able to heal it up a couple of years before my surgery.  I was doing regular stretching, wearing shoes with good support, and wearing a boot at night to keep achilles tendon stretched.  It didn't heal up, though, until I stopped going barefoot in my house.  NEVER GO BAREFOOT!  Once it healed up I could go back to barefoot.

I did all kinds of crazy stuff but saw an orthepedic surgeon who told me to put Birkenstocks on and never take them off, wear the night splints, and 2 times a day stand with the balls of my feet on a stair and let my heels go down and stretch the tendon.  He told me it takes almost half as long as you have had it for it to go away but mine went away in 2 months.  To this day I wear Birkenstocks religiously.  The orthotics never helped me.

Birkenstocks-now that sounds like a nice, comfy way to heal it!  I do have a pair of SAS sandals (that were super expensive-blah) that look like Birkenstocks. I'm going to do that stretch that you mentioned. I think I saw it on the website, "Heel that pain."

I recently switched over to crocs afte  5 years and my feet started to bother me again, Back to Birkenstocks.  They have several brands and betula are the same only cheaper.  I still have not had surgrery for weight loss, but will next month, so it was the shoes not the weight that made a difference.

I have 4 heel spurs and plantar fisciitis in both feet. I had 2 cortisone shots in my right foot, and use custom orthodics for my work shoes. I wear steel toe shoes, so my insoles saved me a lot of agony. My pain went away within weeks with just the orthodics, but I only use them at work. I prefer to wear good running shoes at home, but I do love my flip flops once in a while, but can never walk very long in them. I am on my feet all day long, and having the proper support when I need it the most is what did the trick for me. Losing 46lbs has helped me to do more physical activity without my feet cramping up quickly though. I can now jog for 45 minutes on my treadmill, when I couldn't do a fast walk before without cramping.

I had to have my orthodics adjusted twice before they were just right. It was rubbing too much on one spot and causing some discomfort and a huge callus. Plus they are very stiff and rigid, so I had them put some padding in and they filed down the spot that was rubbing. I tend to put more weight on my left side so even though my orthodics was a custom mold of my foot, the pressure I put on them was different. Maybe a little bit of tweaking is in order to get them to work just right for you.
