PCOS - qualify for surgery???

I am in the process of being approved for WLS and my surgeon is going to use my diagnosis of PCOS as my comorbidity.  I do not have diabetes or hypertension.  I have lots of other things like back pain and incontinence that are directly related to my weight.  My BMI is 38.

I am just wondering if anyone else has had this experience and/or diagnosis and was approved for surgery.

Thanks!

I have PCOS but was approved for WLS because my BMI was over 40 not sure if my insurance would have approved me just on the PCOS.

Good luck!

I have PCOS as well but this was never mentioned as a co-morbidity.  I don't think it will count as a co-morbidity, I am interested to know if you qualify with that as the diagnosis.

BMI was 35 - PCOS as a comorbidity. You can also list all the coresponding health problems that go along with PCOS - especially insulin resistance.

My surgeon has given me the impression that it will.  Maybe d/t the insulin resistance that accompanies the PCOS.  He was very positive about it.  ARGH the wait!!

No HTN or DM. Have high cholesterol, fibromyalgia, migraines - none of which are really comorbidities of obesity (cholesterol is but I had high chol when I was thin so it is bad genes for me). Also had back surgery, but I dont think it matters. Just that you have at least 1 comorbidity.

I have PCOS also, but, I'm past menopause. My insurance approved my surgery based on my BMI and co-morbidities. I'm a classic case of PCOS right down to allergic to sulfa based drugs. If this surgery could have helped me avoid all the symptoms of PCOS, that would have been awesome and if the insurance companies don't currently qualify a person for surgery based on PCOS then they should.

Oh, that is so interesting!  I had no idea allergy to sulfa drugs is related to PCOS, but I have that allergy and PCOS!  Learned something new...

I just learned something too.  I've had PCOS since my teens and did not know it was correlated to a sulfa allergy which I definitely have.

So, did wls help your PCOS symptoms?
