Different people are ready to drive at different times... I was driving 5 days out, but I don't have kids to tote around, either.  And I only drove to get to and from my grad school class after resting up all day long to be ready for that.

Basically, once you are off the pain meds and have the energy to do so, driving is okay.  But if you are still feeling weak, it's not a good idea.  At least that was my instructions.

Well Dear, you cannot drive. I guess your boy won't be going to school tomorrow unless your hubby feels well enough to take him.

Not selfish at all! I am scheduled to be sleeved tomorrow if everything goes well (see my other post about bug bites ) and my husband came down with a cold as well. I secretly suspect it's just his allergies, but he's very insistent it's a cold, lol.

I don't think it's immature at all. He can't help being sick, but you can't help how long you need to heal either. I would explain to him that you're only on x-number of calories a day, and your body is using every one of those to recover from major surgery, and therefore you don't have the energy for anything else right now. If he has a problem with that, tell him to call you doctor.

In the meantime, does your son have a friend he can stay the night with? Or grandparents, perhaps? That way neither one of you would have to be up in the morning to get him ready

Wow everyone, thanks for your support. Come to find out, my surgeon told him I was totally fine the day I was discharged from the hospital and I think maybe he took it wrong. We had a talk and now I'll get my son ready and he'll drive my son to school then take me to my check up. (hubby works nights so he gets home when we are leaving typically ) I told him I know I'm operating better and not needing pain meds but I still tire easily and that part worries me.

moonglo, you're in grad school? I start online grad school tomorrow! Yay!

Yep!  Just finished my first semester.  Part of me wishes I had waited until after the surgery to start, but I had already started the program when I decided to have the surgery, and I did not want to wait for summer :)

Good luck in your program!  And I'm glad you and hubby were able to work out a compromise :)

You're not being selfish.  Tell him to "man up".

Kimberleyann, that is funny. Us nurses call it Man Colds, Man Pain, ect. No offense the the guys out there, I have seen many suck up some intense pain. But that said...yeah. In the hospital if a man has the same surgery as a woman his pain is massively worse. If he has the flu it's the worse anyone has ever had. My husband is amazing and falls into this catagory. LOL.

I am glad yours is a good guy too and realized you still need him no matter how he feels. My solution was to tell him you couldn't drive. So either he took your son or he dealt with your son being home all day possibly driving him nuts while he was sick. :)
