What do I do now?

I had my VSG on 6/10 and weighted about 245. Then got prego 9/10 weighing about 190 lbs. Had my healthy baby boy in 6/11 and I was down to 160ish. I lost 30 lbs right away taking me to around 130's and now I am at 125. My baby is getting ready to turn 1 and he is currently breast fed so I know that takes a lot of extra calories (around 500).  Now that he will be starting to wean (sp?) soon I have noooo idea how I should be eating. Honestly right now I eat any and everything just in much much smaller amounts. I am terrified that once I stop nursing I'll start packing the lbs back on.. Being 2 years out I assume I am in the "maintnance" stage now.. How many calories/carbs should I be taking in at this point? TIA!!

How many calories are you eating?

There are lots of online calorie calculators, but research has shown that the formerly obese need to eat as much as 20% fewer calories than those the same weight who have never been obese. So if you put your weight into a couple of those and multiply the results by 0.8 you should get a pretty good estimate.

Everyone is different, though, so you may need to tweak it a little lower or higher depending on what your body does.

I keep carbs under 100. You're smaller than me, though, so the number may be lower for you.

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

I would recommend speaking with your physician/dietitian.

Are you logging your food? Do you how many calories you are currently eating? If you know how many calories/day you are eating, it will help you to decrease quantities and/or eliminate certain foods from your diet. I hope that you are exercising.

If 125 is where you want to be, then you're gonna have to experiment to see what it takes to stay there.  I'd start at 1200 calories a day and see what happens.  Move it up a hundred calories or so every few weeks until you get to a point where you're not losing or gaining.  It's really gonna be trial and error.

Make sure you stick to your plan as far as eating protein first and not drinking with meals.

Congrats on the baby!

I'm not keeping count of meals, calories etc.. I don't excercise really either and didn't pretty much the entire weight loss journey. I have a pretty active job where I care for kids 12 hours a day 5 days a week.  I JUST made an apt with  the nurse practicioner who assisted with my surgery so maybe she can give me some guidlines. Thanks everyone.... :)
