Exercise postop week 1-2

I am wondering what is a good exercise plan postop a couple of weeks.  I normally walk 30-45 minutes a day pre-surgery.  I am POD 4 today and I have walked around the block a couple of times.  My surgeon didn't really say much about it just that walking is okay.

What is a good goal for right now?  Do I just go with what feels good for my body or should I keep it at a minimum for a couple of weeks?

Thanks for you input.  Also wondering if pushing a stroller is okay?  I forgot to ask.

hi,  I'm 3 weeks out.  Went home from the hospital with a walking plan.  10 mins.  2 times away the first week, increase to 15 mis 2 times a day 2nd week, and increase each week by 5 minutes.  At this point I'm doing 1 mile 2 times a day.  Hope this helps.

I started real slow the day after I got out of the hospital.  I am 6 weeks post op and I am up to 2.5 miles a day.  I have my appointment with my surgeon on Tuesday and I am hoping Im cleared for more excersice.  I plan on joining Curves when cleared.  Good luck!  Just listen to your body and youll be okay.

I'm post-op day 6, I do not have any plan, I just walk when I feel like it. I do a LOT of walking around the house, up and down the stairs, etc... I have not ventured outside yet, I live in the desert and its already over 100 degrees and have always had issues with the heat. So I've been trying to stay inside. I do laps from my kitchen to the living room, then upstairs. You jsut have to listen to your body and don't pu****!!

The advice here about listening to your body is excellent.  good.  Take it a little slow at the very beginning (i.e. shorter distances) to make sure your body can manage the distance.  If you can fit it into your schedule, you can always take a short walk in the morning and another later in the day. Work towards increasing your distance and time as you feel better and stronger.

Getting out and walking is terrific exercise both mentally and physically for the first few weeks following surgery.  I think the biggest concern with walking at the early stage is making sure you stay hydrated.  As the weather gets warmer, and the struggle to get in enough liquids remains, it's not difficult to get into trouble in this area.

I finally got signed up and all... I was told with my DS to move as much as possible. You were already walking before hand, that shouldn't be a problem. But do listen to your body and remember you are in healing stage right now, allow your body to heal, really important.
Hopefully I will see you on Wednesday night!
