Thinking of changing my surgery type, can you tell me how the VSG is working for you?

I just need to hear from people who have done the VSG. I've been in my WLP at Kaiser for over a year. I've always thought I'd get a Gastic bypass I have 104 lbs to lose and my surgery is scheduled for next week. I talked to my doctor today and I meet with my surgeon tomorrow for pre-op appt. I can change it if I want to but need to make up my mind soon.
So confused on which on to do??

While I seem to be "losing slower than others" (not good to compare), I LOVE my sleeve and wouldn't have wanted any other surgery. I've never had this much success and hit "ONEDERLAND" this week. I feel fantastic and my labwork is great. Best of all (and I think sometimes we forget this) is no hunger . . . or not having to eat huge amounts of (even healthy) foods to be filled up. Don't get me wrong, there's work to be done -- protein, water, vitamins, etc. but I think you'll see everybody says they are ROCKIN' THE SLEEVE! Good luck to you Roxy!

I felt the same way and was about three weeks from surgery when I decided on VSG and am very glad I did. My 4 month check up was today and have lost a total of 74 lbs since I started. I do not eat rice, bread or pasta and do not miss it one bit. Unlike the bypass, you can eat just about anything, just a lot less of it. That scared me the most about VSG, afraid I would not make good choices, The Gastric bypass scared me more because of all the changes to my digestion and not able to absorb everything from my diet. I sat down and wrote a pro/con list and off to my surgeon I went, together we decided on VSG. Good luck with your journey, I know you will make the right decision for you.

I'm so happy I chose the sleeve. My doctor suggests I lose 125-150 pounds. I orginially wanted the DS. My doc felt the DS was too much for me and would have modified it for me (making the malabsorption less).
I didn't want the bypass -- first because I wanted a fully functioning stomach, and second because 2 of my friends had it and both of them have gained a lot of weight back -- they are both 3 years out. One gained 75 pounds and the other over 60. They both had a lot of issues -- dumping and hypoglycemia are the only things I can recall at the moment.
It was a tough decision for me as well, but I'm so glad I chose the VSG.
Good luck to you!!

I just had surgery with Dr. Wong at Kaiser last week.. What a dreamboat! I had the sleeve. The Dr. told me that they are leaning more towards that surgery now unless you have active type 2 diabetes. I decided awhile ago to have the sleeve over the bypass because of long term complications. Losing the absorbsion from those 5 inches of you intestine is pretty radical.
