Cabbage a trigger food REALLY?!

Ok so any of you in the upper N.E and now the great DC metro area if you've been to a Wegmans well you know they are grand.  They have this amazing food bar and my kids love to eat there.  Yesterday was jammed pack and then I go to college in the evening,  so I couldn't cook dinner.  Since grocery shopping was my last stop before home and then school I got myself a piece of grilled chicken breast from the food bar, a couple (and I mean 2) mushrooms and about a tbsp of braised cabbage.

Headed home, unloaded groceries and then sat down to eat before heading off to school.  Tried the chicken, yummy normal chicken, then tried a bite of the cabbage.  OMG it was like heaven in my mouth, it had a little tang like maybe a bit of vinegar was used and I found myself just wanting more and more (luckily there was only 1tbsp because I don't think I could have stopped myself), like considering how I could possibly fit going back to Wegmans and getting more into my schedule!

How is it possible that cabbage was a trigger food.  I went to the website and couldn't find it on their list (usually you can find out how they cook stuff) so I called them and they said no sugar was used in the process.  So how the hell did cabbage click off a trigger?  I've had a bite of one thing or another that was a trigger food before (at a party) and one bite was plenty, I enjoyed it then moved on, this was like a beast from another world, with CABBAGE!

At the end of the day I won out over it and didn't drive back to Wegman's, I guess I'll never have it again, but I've never had anything that wasn't loaded in sugar be a trigger food.  Is this just the sleeve messing with my taste buds?

Cabbage is my favorite veggie EVER.... however even pre-op it has caused me some issues as of late....so much I ended up in the ER...
it is very gassey.... and it causes that gas to build up in your digestive system... I imagine I may never be able to eat my precious cabbage again....

FWIW, Im still able to eat Brussel Sprouts with no problems....so far

This is the first time I'd seen it on the food bar too, it was in the soul food section.  Right next to the bread pudding which used to be my favorite thing in the world but now the idea of something that sweet makes me sort of sick.

Aw, say it ain't so!!  There is not much I love more than cabbage - although raw is my preferred state - but I'd be in a world of hurt if that happened!

Did you try to figure out how you could just eat it for breakfast?  That's a clue for me!!

Does it make you want to overeat other foods? Does it have a lot of calories?  Sometimes I just find something that I really like and I have to burn out on it, especially if it has a strong flavor.  I start craving the strong flavor and want it for every meal, but then it passes.

:) Happy

Well the plus side is it has almost no calories, and it didn't make me want other foods so those are plusses.  But I haven't had that urge to just EAT in quantity since the surgery at all and it was such a surprise to have it be something like that.

I made corned beef and cabbage with carrots and potatoes a few times this year around St. Pattys day. I ate alooot of cabbage. I had a little bit of gas, not a problem. I also noticed I wanted more and more...I don't know if it's because I cooked it with potatoes or if it was just the savory flavor...but like OP said. it's super low cal so I didn't let it stress me out too much. Eat your cabbage girl!

Love Wegmans!! I try to stay out of that portion of the store.

This is kinda off your topic, but...

Have you been to the amish market? There's one in Laurel and one in Upper Marlboro. I tried the sage ground turkey patty from the meat market... taste just like sausage!! Popped it on the George Foreman grill for a few minutes and ate half of it with an egg.
