Anesthesia

I've had a spinal tap prior to my surgery, and even that was not bad- a little icky, but not painful at all.. and that was wide awake and in severe pain from meningitis. So I kinda knew what was going to happen.

Aceves does spinal anesthesia in addition to general if your vitals after giving you a sedative show you to be a good candidate.. I was and got it. I vaguely remember being instructed to roll over, and I vaguely recall them putting it in- no pain, just weird. I was out like a light soon after. It's nothing to be concerned over.. the nice thing about it- it's long acting, about 36 hrs of pain relief.. so when I woke, it was just like *plink* eyes wide open, awake & NO PAIN at all.. none. I was in recovery with another person that had the sleeve and he did not get the spinal, when he came out- he was moaning about the pain.. (they have to wait till you're awake and vitals good before giving you something, he was given something quick.)

The pain relief allowed me to feel rather pain-free, just mild soreness that whole next 24hrs. Unfortunately I am intolerant to the narcotics used, so it also brought on nausea till it passed.. the day after, when it wore off and the swelling set in was a little harder, but they take care of you very well. If you are uncomfortable, just ask for more pain relieve- it's not on a pump- so stay ahead of it as they have it on a schedule, and I found I needed it more often as I wasn't getting narcotics.
