Hi. I did a search but did not see anything that really fit this topic.

I woke up this morning feeling like I had a knot in my throat/chest. I haven't had anything to drink or eat since last night so I dont see that anything could be irritating anything. I've burped a couple of time which is unusual first thing in the morning.

I dont really know what to think, any thoughts? I'm not worried just uncomfortable.

I have not heard of this either. It could be acid, i would take a few tums and follow it up with some liquids. I hope you feel better. If it doesnt go away call your doc.

Hi! I see Dr. Enoch did your surgery. Dr. Tyner did mine on 5/31. I have that same knot feeling in my throat/chest. Did they do the hiatal hernia repair? it could be some of that or the acid build up.

Hey RNmom,
Congrats on your surgery!

I did not have a hernia repair this time but did with the band revision or removal, i dont remember which, its been a couple of years. I think its just acid and i go on Thursday for my 2 week f/u.

How are you feeling?

I have gotten this quite a bit before my acid was under control with Dexilant.  You can try some Tums temporarily to see if it might be acid or not however I would caution you about using this long term.  I have done a lot of research on Tums and similar products and they actually INCREASE your acid production making it even worse.  Your stomach knows that the balance is off after taking the "Tums" and will actually produce more acid to try and correct it back to normal.  The only good way I have found to help this is with a PPI.  For me, Nexium and Prilosec did not work very well.  I tried Dexilant and that has done wonders.  No more knots in my throat like you describe.

I think you all are right about it being acid. I dont have reflux but always have heartburn, go figure. My rheumatologist has me on protonix but at discharge it was one of the drugs to discontinue....i have my follow-up on Thursday and i will discuss with the dr restarting on it asap.

Its not pain but it is uncomfortable.

Thanks for responding!

Amy,
Thanks for asking! Today was my best day but I am 5 days post op. I haven't constantly questioned having done this since day 1. But, now I am pretty excited about what life has in store. I have had alot of belching...is that normal?I have had more energy today and hoping by Friday I will go to full liquids.  I am having a hard time feelin gif I am full or not. My chest constantly fills full..but I think that is still the trapped gas. I have tried Gas-X strips that dissolve and they help..some.

Yeah, i have been burping alot too i think that is pretty normal. From what i read on the board you wont really feel full until more solid food. I could tell a big difference with cottage cheese. I actually have to measure those where the liquids i didnt.

I really started feeling great on day 7, but thats just me
