X-Post - Rest Issue

So I'm training for a 1/2 marathon (although I'm only scheduled for a 10 miler right now), I run 4x a week and do upper body and core the other two days.  Now I've started riding again which means I'm often running in the morning and riding horses in the evening (or vice versa).  Since riding is low impact I'm wondering if it's ok that I'm working my legs this much?  Should I dial back the running to 3x a week or should this be ok?

My legs are still too weak for me to do more than 30-40min. of riding but as I build of strength it will probably go to about an hour.  Am I setting myself up for an injury here?  Both of these things are very important to me and I don't want to give up either!

I would up my protien as much as I could if I were you.  Maybe scale back the running to 3 days until you build more strength.  Injuries can set you WAY back if you are not making sure that you are getting ample rest between activities.  Since you are only doing Core and Upper body strengthening, it may be ok, but I wouldn't risk it by over doing it.

English or western? If your'e doing a lot of posting, in particular,  you're using your quadraceps really heavily, and that's the same muscle you break down while running.  I would be careful doing both in the same day without an opportunity to recover.

Make sure you get protein before and immediately after your workout along with some carbs. I would be shooting for 100-120g a day given the schedule you're planning to keep.

English, definitely.  Just came home from the barn and picked out my horse actually.  A pretty 12 yr old, 16.3, thoroughbred, planning on doing mostly flat/dressage for the first few months than I may move into low jumps.
