In-Take program
VSG on 10/15/12
So, I am at the beginning stages of this long journey! My insurance requires me to take a 3 month health program to prepare me for surgery. Right before I start my sessions, I was to go in to have my hour long doctor evaluation yesterday (In-take visit).
It went as planned. I was weighed and messured just to get it all in writting for insurance. I was also given a book of the sessions covering EVERYTHING I will need for the next 3 visits.
It's all happening but slowly. I am still being patient but it's all I think about. I had to quit smoking cold turkey and it's now been 3 days. I'm getting a little looney but am finding ways to cope and i know it will only get better!
Anyone have an suggestions with the waiting process? I'm one of the lucky ones as some people have to do it for 6 months!

Originally my insurance requirements were 6 months of visits with a nutritionist. @ months into my visits the Insurance carrier changed and the new insurance only required 4 visits. I was so relieved that i was not going to have to wait 6 months. My surgery date is July 2 but i am still waiting for approval from the insurance company.
What i did to pass time is lots of research! I started ordering the things i would need like vitamins, protien shakes and i think the best thing i did was early on to quit drinking sugary drinks. It made it so much easier. You will be fine and believe it or not the 3 months will fly by because in those 3 months you will most likely have to go for blood work, phsyciatric evaluation, not to mention your own personal life getting in the way.
I feel like if i got quized on the gastric sleeve at this point i would get an A+ without a doubt.
OH has alot of great resources and best of all lots of vets that are willing to share their journeys.
Good luck to you!

THAT WOULD BE ME. I HAVE A SIX MONTH DOCTOR SUPERVISED WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM REQUIREMENT. ON JULY 2, I WILL BE ATTENDING MY 6 AND FINAL APPOINTMENT BEFORE I CAN SUBMIT TO INSURANCE. I HAVE TAKEN THE 6 MONTHS TO FOCUS ON MY DIET AND EXCERCISE PLAN SINCE I AM GOING TO HAVE TO MAKE A LIFE LONG LIFESTYLE CHANGE. IT TOOK A WHILE FOR ME TO LOCATE ALL THE REQUIRED MEDICAL RECORDS TOO. MAKE SURE YOU ARE GATHERING ALL THE INFORMATION YOU WILL BE NEEDING TO AVOID ANY DENIALS. ONCE I TOLD MY EMPLOYER OF THE POSSIBLITY OF SURGERY, TIME HAS BEEN FLYING BY DUE TO THE PREPERATION PROCESS. WISH ME LUCK AND HANG IN THERE. IT WILL BE HERE BEFORE YOU KNOW IT!!! GOOD LUCK!

Thank you all! What is a plus is my boyfriends sister is having the rou-en-y before my VSG and she is about 2 months ahead of me and also has the 3 month requirement. I am learning from her as she has starting getting the vitamin supplements and protein nutrition she needs. She even gave me a sample of a protein drink mix to try before hand
I am glad there are others that have NOT had surgery yet. Sorry but I don't feel so alone now
Good luck to you all!

I have always wanted instant gratification - probably one of the many reasons I ate so much in the first place! LOL So, I reaaly do hear you and relate. Being in my 50's, I have learned somewhat, over the years, to be more patient, so I tried to look at the waiting period as a time to do research and to practice some of the things that I would need to do after surgery - no soda, no straws, etc. I also worked on cutting back on portions and either cutting out or cutting back on many foods that are triggers for me, so that my body was as well prepared for surgery as possible. I also realized that, having this surgery is a MAJOR step, and I needed the time to make sure I wasn't making an impulsive decision, which I've been known to do and feel regret later - that I went into this with my eyes wide open and as informed as possible. My insurance didn't have any time requirement, just had to do a history and meet medical their criteria. Even with that, I asked my pcp to refer me in 2/11, went to the informational meeting and support group in 3/11, and had to wait for NUT, PT, and psych eval appointments/reports before my consult with the surgeon in 6/11. Surgery was originally on 8/1, but had a false start and had it 8/22. So all in all, I had to wait more than 6 months from start to finish. The time seemed to fly by though and here it is almost 10 months later! Best of luck to you!!!
