No Longer Lurking1
Hi Everyone,
I joined Sunday after spending about a week reading posts and getting a feel for what this forum is like.
My surgery is scheduled but I don't have approval yet. If everything falls into place, my hernia and sleeve will be done June 28. With several comorbidities, we think approval is almost a done deal. I'm keeping whatever I can cross crossed! If I am refused, i expect I'll come here and have a major hissy fit using some colorful language to describe the powers that be at the approval desk LOL
From what i have read and surmised, I'm one of the older people here. With any luck, I'll celebrate my one month surgery and my 65th birthday on July 28th. My goals are to put the two major comorbidities into stabilization or remission. I've read so many successes here in getting Type II into remission -- I'd like to join that group! My chronic kidney disease (amazingly NOT caused by diabetes but rather from senile kidneys) is maybe going to be a little harder. I'd like stabilization at least, improvement the goal. Some studies show decided improvement after bariatric surgery -- I want to be one of those who find that. The weight loss is the extra special bonus. My surgeon said weight loss will only benefit, so in order to achieve these goals, I'm determined to lose the weight to help that along. This is my personal Bermuda Triangle -- lose weight, lose the Type II, and control/improve my CKD.
Please feel free to provide advice, give tips and hints and help in any way you choose. This old girl had a tough hide (let's not talk about the wrinkles, though LOL), so don't mince words, be real, and we will be good to go!
This is so exciting............can't wait to learn more, become more involved, and find friends here.
Ciao.........

Thank you. I've decided that I'm no longer going to think of myself as older -- I'm going to become a recycled teenager! LOL
I completely understand about the comorbidities -- they are my primary reasons for having this surgery. So many very good scientific studies have shown that many health issues can be arrested, improved, and even put into remission. That's not to say that the weight loss isn't important............that's how we will become healthier.
I'm still waiting for approval and my surgery is scheduled for next Thursday...........my surgeon's office staff feel my insurance will approve in time...........trying not to think about it but it's always there.
Good luck with your preparations for September surgery -- I wish you all the best.
