Butt pain...long distance drives. Solutions?
Hello my lovely fellow VSG'ers!!
I haven't been on for a while, too busy living life and chasing kids!
I have found I have a serious, if also somewhat funny problem! I cannot drive long distances without major pain in my rear end!
I discovered this last time I drove long distance (this January, about 600 miles), by 300 miles in, I was *squirming* badly. By 600, I was in absolute pain! I did the drive again, but made someone go with me so I only had to do half, still quite a bit of pain.
Problem is that I am now staring a 4000 mile road trip, doing the vast majority of the driving by myself.
Anyone have this issue? Did you find a solution? Is it posture? More cushions (I did buy a memory foam cushion, but it did NOT help)?
Help!
~Colleen

Is it your tailbone? I am having horrible tailbone pain- so bad it wakes me from my sleep- and awful on long car rides. I actually made a appointment to go see a orthopedic.
If it is your tail bone you need a cushion specifically for your ****yx bone- it has a opening right wear that tailbone is so there's no pressure in that area- It definitely works! They have 'blow"up ones but they do not work as well and you need to make sure you get one specifically for your ****yx bone as a regular cushion still puts pressure on the tailbone.
Usually can find them at medical supply stores- my local CVS, Walgreen's etc only had the junky plastic blow up ones.

GOOD LUCK!

I've had the issue before when I was skinnier. I used a Boppy (those breast feeding pillows) and turned it around, sorta like a reverse toilet seat, only because that's what I had in the house. It worked great!

I have the same problem! I have to force myself to walk around for 5 minutes or so each hour at work, otherwise the pain is almost unbearable. I have a trip coming up that I normally drive (about 600 miles) but thankfully had enough points to fly for free. I was dreading the drive both ways knowing that I was going to be in pain.
It doesnt happen when I sit on the sofa, just while driving or in my office chair. I am going to have to look for one of those cushions!

My sister in law is a chriopractor and she said it could take a while for my body to adjust to just having less cushioning, now there is way more direct impact from sitting from my tail bone through my spine. I will just have to keep forcing myself to walk around for now. It isnt caused by the surgery directly, but by the weight loss associated with having the surgery.
She did advise me to check out one of the cushions that a previous poster mentioned, but my lazy butt hasnt done anything about it yet!

You know those beaded seat covers taxi drivers have in their cars? That's what they are for - relieving pressure points.
If you get any cramping pain down a leg it could also be sciatica - an issue I know much of.
That you might want to see a doctor about. Predinose to reduce inflamation and happy, happy drugs for bed time (Vicodin! woot!) helped ease mine, as did some yoga stretches and walking around as much as possible.
It's easy to get into the zone of the road - make sure you take a break - even just to stand, stretch and walk around the car - everyone couple of hours.
