VSG leads to anorexia and bulimia?
For those who sanctimoniously talk of BS, friend of a friend stories or urban myths, do your research. Yes, anorexia CAN happen after WLS as can bulimia or weight gain. The interesting thing is that often times surgeons never warn their patients about it OR the surgery was done before there was much knowledge or any long term studies (in the case of VSG) were done. I am living proof and if you need more just search the forums for anorexia. Better yet, search YouTube. You can actually see it with your own eyes.
The problem comes when one reaches goal (which most of you had not at the time you posted) or after. Some have been overweight for so long they cannot see their new slim bodies but, instead, see their old selves. The head takes longer to adjust to the physical changes. It took a lot of therapy for me to see the bones, the loose skin and how it was affecting my health. Once I saw them, I embraced them and realized I was a thin person when, in all reality, I was very underweight. A great therapist, psychiatrist and medical doctor have helped me back up. In my case, the same things that led me to over eat caused me to under eat. But every patient is different.
So before anyone starts giving advise about what is truth and what is not, do your research. Yes. Anorexia can develop after WLS. it is not a choice. You do not plan it. It just happens. And the truth is, it is not classic anorexia as it does not fit the DSM description for anorexia.
