Just a suggestion for you about your tracking measurements, etc.  I made up a page on my word processor with my measurements and daily weight chart and I post to that daily for weight, and will post once a month for measurements.

That's really good that your doctor took measurements.  More of them should.  The day before my surgery, I took my measurements because I'd read so many posts here about knowing them before hand so that when the stalls come, it's time to see if we are losing inches when the pounds stop dropping according to the scale.

I'm a proud June Sleever!

Three months ago today I made the call to schedule surgery with Dr. Aceves. Based on my work and travel schedule I selected June 25th as THE date.  On that day I weighed 295 pounds.  I'm 5 foot 10 inches.   I decided I'd start a form of the pre-op diet right there. I was mentally prepared and I thought (a) it would be good practice, and (b) the more weight I lost pre-op the better the operation would go.   I targeted 1200 calories per day and no more than 40g carbs so I could get maximum liver shrinkage.  I was pretty successful staying within these parameters for the two pre-op months, probably hitting those goals all but 3 or 4 days.  I was traveling for several weeks in India where sometimes it was difficult to calculate the nutrients, or to get enough protein or avoid carbs. But in the main, I did very well because I knew help was on the way!

One month ago today I arrived in Mexicali and did my preliminary tests.  My pre-op diet had caused me to lose 35 pounds, so I was at 260.  All of my blood and urine tests were great.  I have been on and off meds for triglycerides over the years, but without meds they were perfect now. As well as cholesterol, glucose, etc. etc.   I had surgery on 6/25.  It was one of the easiest things I've done.  I had never had surgery before, so the closest thing to compare it to would be dental work.  I'd much rather have VSG WLS again than have a wisdom tooth out!  I believe (without any evidence other than my one experience ) that my proactive pre-op diet helped me avoid a lot of the pains (mainly gas) that affect some patients.  I can honestly say that in the care of Almater Hospital and Drs. Aceves and Campos I never felt a moment of discomfort.

Prior to beginning this journey I had too main health concerns.  My glucose was getting toward the pre-diabetic range, and my blood pressure was getting to the point where I really needed to get on medication - soon!   As I mentioned, the pre-op diet calmed the glucose.  I now take my BP daily and it's solidly in the middle of the "normal" range.

30 days post surgery I'm down another 28 pounds (total of 63 since beginning pre-op diet), shirt size has shrunk from XXL to XL or L (depending on brand/fit), Pants from 44 to 38 or even 36 in some cases.  And I have just started exercising as I've hit the four week mark, per the post-surgery instructions.

Needless to say, it has been a dramatic change in my appearance and my health.

I can't say enough good things about the Aceves team, from Nina the coordinator, to the support staff at the hospital, to Drs. Campos and Aceves, the surgical nurses, the internist, anesthesiologist, radiologist, and floor nurses at Almater.  Every single person exuded an air of calm, worked tirelessly on my care and exhibited professionalism at every step of the surgical journey.

I will be 6 weeks on Thursday.......best decision I've ever made.  I have had no pain. I went back to work after the first week half days...then full time after the second week.   I've lost 30 pounds as of hospital discharge.  I feel good.  I have had a few bouts with nausea but nothing too bad.  I still do not have all my strength back, I do tire quickly.   Thursday I can start my "full" diet and I'm a little anxious as to what lies ahead!  Good luck my fellow June sleevers!

Hi Fellow June Sleevers!

I had my surgery on June 28 and I'm so happy I did it.  I had no pre-op diet to follow (I know, I'm lucky).  I left the hospital 8 pounds heavier than when I went in.  Three nights in the hospital connected to the IVs did that...........I also had an umbilical hernia repair at the same time...so I think the extra surgery and nights in the hospital could account for those nasty 8 pounds LOL  By my first week post-op visit with my surgeon, those were gone, thank goodness.

I had no sleeve surgery issues at all -- no discomfort, no pain, no nausea.  My only issues were with the hernia repair -- that's still a little tender and I'm almost 4 weeks out.

Since July 5, I've lost 23 pounds.  I can't exercise much at all due to the hernia surgery, and walking is limited to the grocery store circuit -- having the cart to lean on lets me walk -- otherwise, the arthritis in my back makes walking even a short distance extremely painful.  I'm told that once I get more of this weight off, my back pain will improve somewhat.

My first month "surgiversary" and my 65th birthday are this Saturday -- I am looking at my sleeve as a birthday gift to myself...........the best birthday present I've ever had.  And I hope I can squeeze out another 2 pounds so that I'll celebrate by losing a total of 25 pounds.  Even a senior citizen can have pie-in-the-sky dreams!!!!

Reading your posts is inspirational............you are all doing so well.  Be proud of yourselves and keep workin' those sleeves!

Congratulations!  I am just starting this jouney myself after two years of "thinking" about it.  I am hoping for a November surgery date to coinside with my birthday.   Reading everyone's successes and positive comments, I think this will be the best birthday present ever.

I was sleeved on June 4th. I struggled for the first month and over the last few weeks am finally leveling out in terms of nausea. I can now get in all my liquids and protein daily if I make a concerted effort. I made out okay in the hospital. They also repaired a hernia during my surgery, which was more painful than the VSG itself. I noticed my energy returning around week 6 post-op. I returned to work 1 week after (desk job), I just wouldn't have called myself 100% at that time.

All in all I've lost 46 lbs., 14 of which I lost during my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I started out at a size 24 and I just wore some size 16 shorts over the weekend . I started walking, fairly consistantly doing a 25-30 minute walk 3 days a week. My membership to a local pool/fitness center expired a week before my surgery and I decided to wait to renew it until I really felt up to it again. I'll probably renew it in the next week or so, even at my heaviest I loved to swim. I just didn't like how I looked doing it!

I'm 6 wks out and am feeling really good. Since surgery I'm down 20lbs and that includes a very frustrating 3 week stall. I'm hoping things perk up soon again with my weight loss. I'm so happy with my decision though and know things will only get better

I was sleeved on June 18th. I'm doing very well. The biggest challenge I have is in food shopping. I need to stop buying a dozen eggs at a time. :)

I went back full on to the gym today for the first time and it felt AWESOME! My pants are sliding off and the XL (men's) tees I bought last week are really just too loose now.

Yesterday i had my meal all set in my bento box, but then got asked to lunch by our development team. I was the only girl at a table full of geek boys. I ate the inside of a grilled club sandwich - turkey, tomato, bit of cheese and some bacon - and a few sweet potatoe fries. I was STUFFED. So I'm learning to just eat a couple of forkfuls and get a to-go box. I can always eat more of it later. I had the other side of the sandwich and a few more sweet potato fries for dinner. The bacon is definitely something I'll skip for the time being - or at least only enjoy when it's really lean and well-cooked - the bacon yesterday was a little fatty for the digestion.

My bathroom scale which may or may not be totally accurate puts me at 230. My official weights are coming from either my PCP or my surgeon's office.

I still have to take Milk of Magnesia every couple of days to move things along, but hopefully with picking the gym back up and getting to eat more normal food that will not be a necessity for much longer.

Hi there all June sleevers!  I was sleeved on the 27th so I'll be a month out on Friday.  So far everything has been good.  I was lucky to have no complications.  I have had no hunger from the time I woke from surgery.  I did put my nausea patch on wrong the night before surgery so I had to stay 2 days in the hospital instead of one because I vomited a couple of times and my surgeon was worried but it was just the yucky anesthesia that made me sick.  I have been up and walking since in the hospital.  I have been able to get all my water and vitamins in and right now I can eat anywhere from an 1oz to 2oz a meal.  I'm not allowed to have beef or anything that walks on four legs yet.  So its been a lot of turkey and chicken.  I had my surgery 8 hrs away from where I live so I stayed in AZ for a couple weeks till I could come home.  This month has kinda flew by for me.  The only pain I had was my biggest incision just pulling and burning some when I would walk too much or bend over.  I haven't had any pain for the last two weeks tho.  I have lost 41.9 total and this is with 19.3 lost before surgery so from surgery till today I have lost 22.6 total.  For about 5 days I stayed the same and then one morning dropped a couple of pounds of course this is on my home scale I'm sure my doc's scale is more accurate.  I know I have lost some inches tho before surgery I was in a tight 22 some 24 jean and know I can fit in 20 which are getting a lil lose so almost time for 18's.  I go for my two month appointment Aug 31st.  I'm hoping to get another 10lbs off by then I've been trying to not set my expectations too high that is hard for me to do.  I haven't been tired I have had lots of energy and have been walking at least 30 min a day either outside or on on the treadmill.  I called my surgeons office yesterday I wanted to know if I could join curves for women but I have not yet heard back from them yet to see if I can.  It looks like everyone is doing well so far that is really good.  I didn't realize that there where so many of us June sleevers!

June 26 was my surgical date and although I'm not losing as quickly as some I'm losing WAY faster and further than I've ever managed On my own with diet and exercise. As of today I'm cleared for swimming, so will be back in my aquasize class tomorrow morning - can't wait!

I'm still learning how to get along with "Fred" and how very important it is to keep my bites small and chew really well. My portions are laughable (I'm up to between 1/3 and 1/2 cup of food for a meal) and other than broth when out for lunch with friends last week I'm sticking to eating at home where I can weigh and measure my food.

I'm down a size in clothing and joyfully boxed up every stitch that doesn't fit anymore. I know that tradition is to keep one thing for a "I used to fit this" picture, but I'm choosing to look forward, not back.
