I second the baking soda, used to use it on my dad's nasty thermos to get the coffee flavor out of it every now and then. May have to do several times but it should work. Altho being a plastic container you may just have to buy a new one since the tastes can really stay in the plastic more than a regular thermos. If you do get a new one use the baking soda trick first so you don't embedd any other tastes in it. Good luck!
I simply cannot drink water out of the thermos or plastic cups... Ive tried EVERYTHING... hot sudsy water with bleach, vinegar, baking soda... I just given up...
Oddly I dont have the issue drinking from the Plastic containers water comes in when purchased from the store.... so I just freeze the gallon bottles & drink it as it melts during the day or if I forget I drink it room temperapture....
I wish I could figure out what about the thermos and/or plastic cups that make water taste so bad

Hi,
This may seem weird, but I've used it and it has worked well on plastic containers in most cases and fairly well in others.
Make a solution of water and salt - 1 cup of regular table salt to a gallon of water. Make sure the salt is dissolved and then pour it into your thermal jugs. Leave them out in the sun for a day or so -- stir occasionally (I don't always remember this part LOL). Rinse thoroughly.
I don't know the chemistry as to why it works -- I've had luck with it and sometimes I just don't care about the WHY -- I just want the smell gone LOL
Good luck
