I knew losing my hair was a side effect of WLS and excepted this could happen. My hair has been thinning for over a year with each stressful thing that happens in my life I can almost count down 60 to 90 days after a stressful event in my life, I will start losing my hair, over the past year my hair has lost over half it's volume I already take Biotin everyday.. not sure if it works or if I'd be losing more if I didn't take it.
Are wigs in my future or Bandanas to cover my BALD head! I feel so vain and ridiculous for feeling this way, after all it's just hair.. but it's my hair dam it!
Yesterday I bought some Rogaine 2% Minoxidil will this work or help?? does anyone know or used this product or is it just going to be a waste of money?

thanks I try really hard to get all my protein doing well there and I take calcium too plus I eat lots of dairy products cottage cheese, yogert etc. Good Luck with your surgery it will change your life, I know I sound dramatic with my hair loss but I wouldn't do anything different even if I go completely bald it will be worth it, I am doing so much better physically.

You can always get a wig or a weave til it grows back.

I have had thin hair my whole life, and my best friend is my hairdresser- I drive from MD to NC to get her to do my hair-LOL...anyway I am using a Bosely system that is a shampoo, conditioner, and two other leave in producst. When I went home a couple of weeks ago for her to do my hair she told me my hair was in great shape and it was the thickest she has seen it before. I am at work now and don't have the name of the stuff here, but when I get to the house I will message you the info by tomorrow. I hope it gets better!

Will you post the products on here also. I would like to try them. My hair is in terrible shape. It has always been thick and healthy. Not now.
Maybe I need to try what you are using.
Thank you.

Roxy that is jy biggest fear also!!!! I have been taking BIOTIN. I start taking 10,000mg a day. My hair is healthy but still thin so I am hoping it will help it from not falling out. I have thought about wigs and it makes me want to cry. Hopefully yours dont last for too long.

As one shedder to another- I've lost tons of hair after major weight loss before, after a round of the flu.. major emotional stress.. I ended up seeing an endo and dermatologist years ago just to make sure everything was ok, as my hair had thinned so much with each shed. It came down to trying a couple meds (didn't work, hated the side effects) and being told to use Men's Rogaine foam, not the women's.. and to deal with it. For me, it's a combo of telogen effluvium (the shedding) along with a history of females in my fam with very thin/thinning hair as they get up in age.. The men, nope- just the women, aka female pattern baldness.. so Rogaine can help (with the thinning, not the shedding.)

After a few years of taking 5000mcg biotin a day (did that for nails well before surgery, but maybe it helps hair grow in thicker too?..) and about 5 years of daily Men's Rogaine use (it is not fast, and can CAUSE a temporary shed- and it takes at least 6mo of 2x daily use to see a diff, stop=big shed.) I have better hair.. not great like it was in my teens, but better than it's been for the last 7 or so.. and not getting worse. The Rogaine was a last resort. If your hair loss recently (this last year) is not your norm, and you have no family history of female pattern baldness, I'd skip the Rogaine and give time a chance to correct it.. You won't go bald, and I still had a shed post-op even with the Rogaine use, as that's just unavoidable to some extent if it is going to happen. I'm just trying to prevent any more follicle shrinkage at this point, different issue than it shutting down and shedding, then regrowing.. so, long winded answer- if you are just shedding, and not "thinning", meaning the hair shaft itself- SKIP the Rogaine.
