To the teachers out there

Holy crap.  I am SO SICK of everybody commenting on the weight loss- seriously I think I lost about 20 poundsish since they last saw me.  It is not like all of a sudden at this point.  Of course, I happen to be nasty sick this week, naseua, vomiting, etc.  I am pretty much a workaholic so it is glaringly obvious that I have missed most of this week.  Between that and the short haircut and recent cancer surgery I am once again dealing with everybody convinced I am dying.  I know, I know... I could just come out but the discrimanation at work is preventing it.  My boss was in my room 4 separate times asking if if I could "handle" various duties and that if I wasn't well enough he could help.  Seriously, this man really needs to start freaking listening when I tell him the cancer is managed.  (I can't say quite say free of any trace of cancer as I just had another biopsy 2 days ago- but here's hoping it comes back negative.)   Between the surgery two weeks ago, the short curly hair due to the weight loss and mild hair loss, the overwhelming naseau this week I can see why he thinks I am cancer sick, not just flu sick.  But damn, I wish he would just listen and not try to be my flipping doctor!!!

How is everybody else managing the transitiion back into the classroom?  Are you getting bombarded with comments, and if so in a good or bad way?

Well, I am a teacher but no classroom as of yet :(  I was up at my MIL school helping the office out (she is a office manager at elementary school I was a Part time teacher at last school year) and the teachers and principal pretty much all made a comment lol.  Well, I had the Surgery the week after school got out and hadn't seen anyone.  It has now been just about 2 months and 2 months ago today til today I have lost 44.2 pounds.  The Principal made a comment first saying "wow you are looking great" while kinda waving his hands down his side then immediately was saying "I didn't mean that in a bad way, or harrassment way, just healthy great" and was like "Thanks, don't worry I didn't take it wrong" (sad that it comes to where he felt he immediately needed to back pedal) and every teacher that saw me made a comment about weight loss, asked how I was feeling, and when they saw my lunch (like the cottage cheese and hard boiled egg, or when I drank just my protein shake) made a comment that i wasn't eating enough (they were shocked when I said that I was fine living off 600 calories or so a day)

I am REALLY looking forward to returning to my other school I worked part time at (Principal called me and offered me job back, will find out mon/tues when I will start) and going up there, because these teachers haven't really seen me since my position ended at the end of May/Beginning of June.  So for them it will be like 60 pounds difference (plus anything else I lose before then).  I can't wait to get back into my classroom and getting started in the year :)

Sorry you are sick and having to deal with that... no bueno definitely

We don't start here for another two weeks but I can tell you that I am not looking forward to it. The two teachers I worked closely with last year know about the surgery. So I am sure once others start asking they will all know. The only reason I am not looking forward to their comments is that I for one do not like the attention, good or bad. Also, I have unfortunately heard many negative comments about other teachers in the building who have had surgery :(
My actual goal is to be happy & healthy....doesn't matter what number that lands on.

The gossip mill in a school is just insane.  I am right there with you regarding the attention.  I enjoy being part of the group, but not a center stage type at all.   I think right now I am just a bit more sensitive than normal because I feel pretty crappy.  I am pretty sure that once everybody sees me and gets it out of their system then hopefully they will move on.

I am a first grade teacher, and I must say that the faculty and staff at my school are my biggest supporters! Yes, I get compliments and questions every day, but everyone is just curious...and they are really sweet about it. I have been very open and honest about my surgery from day 1, so I think that's made things pretty easy for me. Have a great school year!

I had several people look at me and ask me how much weight I had lost over the summer. Made me laugh because it was all of about 6 pounds - 7 at the most on a really low day.

I don't think people were used to the thinner me when we left for summer break and now that my clothes fit, well, I'm guessing that I look much thinner than I did in June. I don't to me, but I'm not such a great judge. Most of the time I think I still look fat.

I have had many people be very complimentary saying how healthy I appear, etc.... Pretty much everyone at my site knows about my surgery and that's fine by me. I didn't broadcast it to the parent community, but my colleagues are no problem. Some definitely don't agree with my method, but most are very complimentary. I have had two people say I am too thin. Oh well.... Can't please everybody!

The people who NEVER say anything are the two other teachers who are MO. They never, ever mention my weight. One of my grade level team members opted not to go for WLS last year at the same time I did. She went the "natural route". She gained 20 pounds in the last 8 weeks. I feel pretty bad for her. I'll be interested to see if she decides to go for WLS this year.

Edit: I notice that I referred to myself as MO. Gotta stop that, I guess. Hmmm....does take a while to adjust the thinking, doesn't it.

That brings up a point that just sucks for me- I have 2 coworkers that would greatly benefit from surgery.  I feel pretty confident that if they knew I had it they would want conversations about it and would be potentially open to the process.  Since the bosshole sitautaion makes it so I can't come out, I am stuck.  I am hoping one day to be able to let the staff know.
