Pre-Op Diet Meltdown
Hello,
I am new to this forum. I also had a lap band in 2010. I am now considering vertical sleeve gastrectomy because I was in a car accident that has damaged the esophagus. Have you had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy yet? How can I tell what kind of surgery the different people have had. I am interested to know if any have regrets.

Hi J. Welcome. Folks on this forum are VSG folks in different stages of the process. I'm one of the new ones, looking to be sleeved in a couple months. If people have had the surgery, you will see it says VSG with the date under their avatar. The main reason I'm doing this surgery is how few people have complications and regrets. Keep reading the forum; you'll learn alot; there are also many veterans who are willing to answer questions.
When I had my first surgery 4 years ago(lapband) I only had to do one week and I was able to eay the opti-fast bars. They weren't the best but at least I could have the satisfaction of chewing. To make it bad my daughters birthday party and a baby shower were being held at my home that weekend. Talk about frustrated
So this go round they tell me its 2 weeks of pour liquid. I have a two more weeks before I get to that point.
Just stay focused and it will past quickly!

Chicken broth is your friend! I cooked carrots, celery, onion & bay leaf in the broth. I just removed them and then had a broth full of flavor .... I did this pre & post surgery. I puréed the veggies when I could have mashies.
This journey isn't always easy - but it is SO worth it! When it gets tough, keep your eye on the prize of improved health, etc.
Take care ~ Terri

I remember how it was at the begining...UPdownUPdownUPdownUPdown...
Just know that this is normal and it's going to be this way until the surgery and for the first week or so after. That rollercoaster of emotions is intense!
But seriously, it is so worth it and by week five I *PROMISE* it will be so, so, SO great from there on!
Oh - hey, idea. Mints and or gum. Spearmint or wintergreen. Somehow that seemed to help my cravings during the pre-op diet. I still use them now when I'm battling "head hunger".
Good luck! Stay strong!

You guys are the best, I don't think I could do this without all of you, and I mean it! That broth was a lifesaver last night!! My hubby went out and bought me some. After all of that sweet, sweet, sweet, it was SO nice to have something savory. It made me feel SO much better. I love the idea of simmering it with some veggies! I am totally going to try that today, that should help a lot.
I'm taking this one minute at a time. I am totally going out today and treating myself. I need new slippers for the hospital stay anyway, so I think I'm going to get some and maybe some cute comfy jammies to wear once I'm home from the hospital. I'm hesitant to buy any clothes right now, but some comfy stuff sounds good.
My hubby said he wants to do a "date night" with me. He said we can get a redbox movie and cuddle on the couch, and he's going to give me a foot rub and stuff. That sounds like just what I need. I think I might even go and get a pedicure! They said I can have paint on my toes but not on my fingers for surgery. :)
