I've had bacon, egg and cheese since surgery. It's actually a pretty good protein brunch to have. You're just not going to eat a) a lot of it, and b) any from McDonald's.

As Rob said - some of your tastes will change. You may not be able to tolerate cheese for a long time, or you could be totally fine. I had a much higher fat tolerance before than I do now, which is fine.

Just for today you can make a healthy choice in your food. Maybe tomorrow you'll have a grilled cheese, maybe not. Today is the only day that matters.

I did the same thing.  It took three weeks for me to obtain approval from the insurance company.  From the time of my initial visit with my surgeon and the pre-op visit, I had gained 5 pounds.  The nurse asked me why I had gained weight and I said that I was enjoying my favorite non-healthy foods before my surgery!  I lost the 5 pounds on the pre-surgery diet. I admit I halfway followed the diet.  I was sure to not eat really fatty or fried foods and ate in moderation.  I had my surgery one week ago today and I'm sticking to the liquid diet to the letter!

I gained a whopping 14 lbs in the seven weeks from when my lap band was removed and when I had my surgery. Now granted it was also the holidays so there was even more food around and excuses to eat and drink ****tails/wine...and I did! That being said, I now regret it kinda...I had a great time but would I weigh 14 lbs closer to goal if I hadn't? Maybe and maybe not. But a lot of this go thru this before sugery.

Definitely get it out of your system before your pre-op diet starts. It's just best to comply with your doctor's diet plan to help your surgery run smoothly. Like Rob said, you can and will still enjoy alot of your favorite foods ... eventually. Maybe it's best to limit the nachos and carby stuff but I still enjoy my food now. I actually love it more... in much smaller portions.

I'm gonna gorge just a little until then! lol even if I dont get approved yet, I'm going to get back on track with my protien shakes and treat my body right.

I'm having the exact same problem.  I've been having ice cream every single day!  Like crazy!  Also Mexican food.    I'm worried about it too cause I'm not sure if the doctor will still do my surgery if I gain weight.

Yep, totally normal! I ate Mexican for lunch, burger king for dinner, sonic the next day, etc, etc. for a week before going on the liquid diet.

Keep in mind you will have a headache your first 3 days you go on liquids because your body is addicted to the carbs, sugar, etc. but it is what it is and it passes!

p.s. I still enjoy my food and eat eggs and cheese all the time, bacon occasionally too! It's not as bad as you might think, this post op eating.

You are not alone! I felt like I had to eat everything in site because I could never eat it again. I was supposed to be on a 2 week liquid diet and I failed that miserably! I even went to McDonalds the day before surgery (TWICE!) I am not proud of myself but I want you to know most of us went through it.

I wish I would have chilled out and realized I CAN eat those same foods after surgery if I really wanted to. Thank God I dont want to!

Oh, my gosh--I can totally relate!  My surgery is on the 26th of this month and I start the 1200 cal diet tomorrow, leading up to the liquids two days prior.  (I'm so thankful I don't have to do 2 wks of liquids!)  Anyway, I have been pigging out the last few days...pizza, sub sandwiches, doughnuts, DQ, and a yummy breakfast bagel w/ sausage, egg, and cheese.  I'm having Mexican tonight as my final meal of not counting calories.  I'm not proud, but it is what it is.  The next couple of days are going to be rough!  So glad to read all of these responses and know I'm not alone.
