Progesterone and IUD ? Hormonal Changes?
Hi everyone! I recently went to my Gyn under the advice of my surgeon because I have been having increased periods cleary due to the weight loss. He said I should ask for some bloodwork. Well, she basically didn't think I would be having hormonal issues. She thought my decreased libido was due to relationship changes. I told her I was seeing a counselor and a life coach, you know? Now test my hormones damnit!
Well she wasn't interested in that so I'm setting up an appointment with an endocrinologist. I can see this being a great idea also because of all the super fast body changes. (Oh and the Gyn also discouraged me from getting plastics. Needless to say, she's not my favorite doctor right now.)
She prescribed progesterone because she thinks my IUD isn't regulating stuff properly. I don't really know what I'm asking except maybe has anyone else had IUD and libido issues since losing the weight?
Any insight on progesterone? Thanks!
I don't have an IUD - but I do have Implanon. If you have a medicated IUD, it's the same med in both. I was highly unregulated after surgery as I was losing (bled for almost 2 months) and had decreased libido. My doc gave me a 1 month course of estradiol pills and it synced everything back up. Can't comment on the libido issue though because my relationship hasn't survived my post surgery life changes.
Yes, duh. It's a Mirena. I wasn't having a period at all and now I have like a 2-day period every 2 weeks. It started causing a lot of frustration and water retention. I get soooo exhausted around my TOM. Is estradiol estrogen or progesterone? I hope it fixes stuff. She said it also helps you sleep better. I'm all for that!
I'm sorry about your relationship. Any advice? Hubby and I have been doing well but it took a while to settle into all the changes. I feel like I'm sooooo selfish right now. Me, my weight loss, my body, my new clothes, my plastics, me me me.
Estradiol is estrogen. It was my doctor's theory because the Implanon/Mirena is progesterone based and I was already supplementing with Depo Provera which is also progesterone based so she didn't want more progesterone. Gave me estrogen.
Can't give you much in the way of advice. I kind of knew things were ending even before surgery. We'd only been together about 8 months and had many problems that weren't at all weight loss related. The one thing my gyno had me do is try a log of "why" I didn't feel like doing "it." After looking at it, a lot of mine had to do with low energy and relationship issues. Talked to my therapist about one and increased my carb intake a little for the other.
One of the things that was pointed out to me at the time was that fat produces testosterone in women. As we lose weight, there's less fat, making for less testosterone. Less testosterone = lower sex drive.
If your relationship is doing okay besides the low sex drive, I'd say get creative. Read a dirty book, play a new game - mix it up a little. And as far as feeling selfi****hink all relationships go through that every now and then. Your husband understands (or at least I hope he does) and unless he's complaining, I'd let yourself be selfish for a while.
I have had a very low libido since surgery... my gyn ran blood tests and my progesterone and testosterone were unmeasurable! I am now on progesterone pills and on testosterone cream but no effects yet. I mean I have been sleeping at night better. Progesterone makes you very sleepy! I look forward to getting my groove back! So is my husband!! LOL!! Find another GYN!!
I took the progesterone for the first time last night and it did make me sleepy but gave me terrible abdominal cramping. Did it do it to you at first? I agree about finding another Gyn, I plan to! I've been terribly sleepy all day today so I hope my body adjusts soon!!
Thank you for the feedback and I hope to get my groove back soon also!
