Soooooo Happy -- Health NSVs
Hi OH Friends
I've had to be patient for nearly a week and wait for my lab results from my 4 month check-up............WOW, were they ever worth waiting for!
My Type II Diabetes is definitely in TOTAL remission! My A1c was 5.5 down from 5.9 from the last time. Anything under 6.0 is considered NON-diabetic! I've been off meds since admission for surgery back on June 28!
My cholesterol numbers were top-drawer and there is no need to go back on meds for that either!
My Chronic Kidney Disease numbers just about put me on the floor! I don't HAVE a number for my GFR! That means that my GFR is now OVER 60 which is incredible! Over 60 makes me NORMAL!! My creatinine stayed at a respectable 0.90 which is in the normal range! This does NOT mean that my kidneys are getting better -- that will never happen -- but what is DOES mean is that my CKD has stabilized and the kidneys are not getting worse at this point.
So, I'm delighted! My main purpose in getting a VSG was to halt further progression of my comorbs and maybe even find some improvement. At this point, I can say MISSION ACCOMPLISHED so far! (May it continue to be so.)
I have to occasionally remind myself about my primary reason for getting Myrtle -- though I have become just as much a slave to the scale as everyone else. I complain about being such a slow loser (which I was warned I would be, but who believes that??? LOL) and wish I were losing faster and more. However the 55 pounds and 48 inches are NEVER coming back. The other day, I forced myself to pick up a 50 pound bag of dog food -- I don't have a dog, though I wish I did. Anyway, I picked up that bag and was able to take about 4 steps and then had to return the bag to the shelf. THAT, my friends, told me something important. I was carrying around 5 pounds more than that just over 4 month ago. How in the world did I do it? Maybe that's an experiment we should all do when we get in the dumpers over being slow to lose or being stalled. Knowing where we came from is important. Sure helped me get out of a funk about not losing anything in nearly 2 weeks.
The support and encouragement so many of you have provided has made this journey ever so much easier. Thank you so much. Reading your posts, learning from you, and feeling comfy enough to share my crazy posts.........well, this place ROCKS!
I live each day with gratitude for my new life, my second chance, my sleeve..........and for each of you who have come to my aid to laugh, advise, comfort, and sometimes cry with me. How lucky can one woman be?!?!?!
My heart is full............and happy. I wish for each of you wonderful friends the same.
Ree
That right there is what it's about. Congratulations!
Good reminder of how far we've come - I don't even know if I could pick up a bag weighing 115 lbs (amount I've lost). I know an 80 pound bag of water softener salt is hard to handle. Gee, I wonder why it was hard to stand up after laying on the ground??? :)

Thank you so much :-)
It really is a wake-up to let us know how much we've lost when we pick up something heavy and then try to walk with it.
You have done so well -- especially with all your travels. I enjoyed all you photos you posted.
Awwww, thank you Diana. I've followed your story, too. We are only 2 weeks apart.
You are doing a great job! Be proud of yourself!
Ree,
How wonderful!!! I am so happy for you and I look forward to having some of the same successes. You have been such a great support to another "oldie" (me, lol)!! Keep up the great work and so nice to see your patience has paid off (something I don't have). I am losing very slowly also - it is frustrating so early out but I will keep the NSV's in mind next time I step on the scale.
Paula
Hi Paula,
Thank you! It's amazing what lab work can tell you about your health. Sure felt good today when my doctor called! She was laughing because she was so excited about the numbers.
We aren't "oldies" -- we are recycled teenagers!
And Oh NO, I am NOT patient at all LOL I moan and groan and gripe and have hissy fits when the scale is stingy -- which it is most of the time LOL I've threatened the flippin' thing with hiring a hit-man unless it coughed up a few pounds!!!
You are doing FANTASTIC -- you've lost 28 pounds in a month! That's outstanding. Be proud of yourself! Go pick up a couple of 14 pound turkeys and walk around the store with them --don't use the cart! You'll get a huge appreciation for your weight loss! You'll look a little weird walking around with the turkeys, but it's a great experiment LOL
Thanks again!
Ree
