Diet progression
As of day 5 postop I could have pureed and "tender" foods like cottage cheese, pureed/strained soups, pureed soft fruits and vegetables, yogurt, applesauce and egg white or Eggbeaters dropped into boiling broth for "healthy egg drop soup." That last one scared me too much after reading about all the problems with eggs other OHers had had. These foods were available along with smaller portions of protein shakes.
Here's my progression:
1. 2 days of clear liquids after I got home.
2. Full liquids for one week. (shakes, yogurt, thinned oatmeal, soups, etc)
3. Purees for one week
4. Soft foods for one week
5. Solids
Frankly, there wasn't much difference between purees (if you start with soft meats!) and soft foods for me. Many solid meats were also "soft foods" depending on how they were cooked, or had previously been purees. For solids -- I had pork tenderloin, and grilled chicken. I didn't start fish til then, but that was because we didn't have any!
Lots of plans differ, and because I was traveling, in retrospect, many of my meals out consisted of soups that could have also passed for purees. I didn't have any problems with any of the foods during the first week, whi*****luded, green chile soup, chili (which is a misnomer, it was basically a chili-flavored tomato soup!), butternut squash chili (no meat, again, more of a pureed soup), and a broccoli soup. I was in a lot of vegetarian/vegan restaurants - that's why my food choices are little out of the ordinary! LOL!
