Need some advice for migraines please!

I've had migraines for as long as I can remember. My neurologist started me on a small dosage of Botox injections in November. They definitely worked for a month, but the migraines are back. Today, he prescribed me Imitrex injections and Prednisone to try to stop them before they get bad. This is to hold me over until I go back in mid February for more Botox. Does anyone know if it's safe to have Imitrex? He said the prednisone should be fine, but I have to get ahold of a surgeon to find out about the other, since it interferes with blood flow. My surgeon is deploying, so I have to make an appointment with a completely different surgeon. I have no clue what to take until then! Thanks everyone!

Can't you call the surgeon's office and ask instead of waiting for an appt?  The nurse should be able to find out and call you back as well.

I take Frova, but mine are infrequent, so I didn't ask -- and ended up having a migraine two days after I got home from the hospital -- on a Sunday!  So, as  you know -- there's not much worse than a migraine, so I took my migraine drugs.  I had a follow up with my doc already the next day, and he read through the drug info, and said it was OK.  Frova is relatively new, so I took the drug insert.  Imitrex is one of the most well know migraine drugs, so I think you should be able to get the answer to this on the phone.

Good luck!

Thank you! I have the really stubborn migraines. It starts when I wake up in the mornings, goes away around noon, then comes back in the evening. They cause me to have a "vision" that's almost like a hallucination. If they get bad enough, I go into seizures. (I swear, he thought I was crazy until he caught it in the middle of my EEG.) I had been on Imitrex and Topamax before, but it didn't really work. I guess the neuro is hoping that my migraines will change with the other changes.

I fully plan on calling tomorrow, I just don't want to suffer all night. (This mommy gets very grouchy when you mix a migraine with little sleep. lol)

I have cluster headaches which are not reacting to anything. Any of the triptans are safe for us according to my neurologist. They don't work for me at all. From your ticker, it looks as if you are post op enough that a short course of prednisone should befine as well.  I've just been put on oxygen therapy and we'll see what happens.  I've basically had a headache at a 7 or 8 every day since March. It's a mother*****.

Good luck.  I've been through two docs and two hospitals and am looking again.  Just not looking for narcotics...

That's pretty much what I'm going through. I mentioned above what mine do. The neuro calls them "severely complex". I told him I don't want narcotics. I've got my midgets to run after, I CAN'T stay loopy all of the time. Mine don't really react to much, except the Botox. So I'm kind of between a rock and a hard place until February when he bumps up the dosage.

My diagnoses was confirmed after months of screwing around with test after test and days of hospitalization. Finally, they looked at my face for some simple signs. Defined by the "Horton" symptoms, cluster headaches, which usually strike men, cause droopy sand asymmetrical pupils. They are supposed to come and go on a regular basis, but mine just stay for weeks on end.

Nothing so far has relieved the pain. Messsage me if you want because I know exactly how bad it is.

I have gotten dilauded shots at urgent care when they get horribly bad. It breaks. Apparently when you have a prolonged headache it does something... something about spasms and you have to break that or it will last for a million days.

imitrex is completely fine. I've  been taking it for years, the whole prescription every month. It's the only thing that helps me.

Topamax, verapamil, Imatrex, Sumavel, Lithium, indomethacin, maxalt, and even, yes, tramadol. Nothing so far.

Hi Everyone,

I had them since childhood and have been helped by a couple of things.  For me its mostly from my neck muscles and I am fortunate to have married a massage therapist, who can work wonders for my neck.  She has taught me to perform significant stretches, neck strengthening exercises and yeah, I am blessed for free massages -  it makes a world of difference.  My Dr. thinks its inflamed and told me to take ibuprofen prescription (Aleve doesn't touch it) which also really helps but not good to take often and long term.  My go to is extra strength Excedrin and its almost 100% effective for me. for about 2-3 hrs.

Hope your feel better.
