Got a call back on migraine issues

So the prednisone is a no go. They said I am too early out for it, as it can cause ulcers. (Don't need that!) They said the Imitrex injections are just fine. Thanks for all of the advice last night. I tried to sleep it off, but it didn't do much for me today. I'm just glad I didn't get everything filled until they gave me the ok. I've also got my appointment for the Botox next month. Now, here's hoping the Imitrex will do me some good today.

For what it's worth my surgeon allowed me Fioricet for migraines, works like a charm for me.

How do the imitrex injections work?? Is it an actual needle? I know the pills usually work well for me but the nasal spray sucks

I believe it is a needle. I haven't had the chance to run to the pharmacy to get the injections. From what the neuro told me, I just pinch a bit of stomach skin and insert it. A friend of mine had them a while back and she said it was almost like an epipen. I'll have to see. He wanted me to try the nasal spray, but my insurance wouldn't cover it. At least he's trying to find me something without a huge copay. lol I found some pills that I had stashed away and took one. It took the edge off, but I'm still kind of out of it. I'm hoping a nap will help it out as well.

I had incredible success with the injections some years ago when I had chronic migraine.  The pills did absolutely nothing, but the injections were very powerful. I found the first 30 minutes after taking them to be very strange I. That I could feel the restriction of the blood flow (it was painful) but after that, I was completely better.   And when I say better, I mean i felt like I had just woken up after a great night's sleep!  So glad I don't get migraines anymore, but if I did, Imitrex injections would be my drug of choice.

Thank you for this info! The pills aren't doing anything for me. It's nice to hear that the injections work better!

I feel I should warn you that they really sting though!  But the result is well worth the discomfort associated with the I mention and blood vessel constriction PROMISE!!

The injections are great for many and I hope they work well. Just a slight word of caution...please make sure you are not alone the first time you use it. The "reaction" to it is usually very different than the oral Imitrex and as the last poster said it can be a bit scary/strange at first. I suffer from chronic headaches and migraines and am still searching for that elusive "cure". I truly hope this is the relief for you........ migraines are awful!cheeky
