sleeved on monday - hard to take in water / liquids???
everytime i sip anything on my "list" of approved items i get this uncomfortable sensation in the mid chest area between my breasts but a little lower. anyone else have this? does it go away? is it just because everything is still sore and anything going down is causing minor irritation? it feels like when you light a match, how it flares and the goes out it does that over and over and over.
Yes, this is because your sleeve is very new and sore. It will get better. I had the exact same issue for about a week or so. What helped me tremendously was to drink the smallest sips over and over. I did this for the first three days and then I was able to drink a little more. It is a gradual process to get back to drinking, but it will happen.
I had to look at getting liquid in as my full time job the first week or two. I sipped and sipped and sipped all day long. (I was sort of terrified of dehydration and having to go to the ER, so I really focused on getting in my water.) I also found that cold water was the hardest, room temperature water was the best, and warm/ho****er came in second.
Experiment with temperatures, but just sip, sip, sip. I promise, it will get better. At almost 14 months out I can now take a normal drink of water - can't chug, but I can take a normal swallow and even take a handful of vitamins in one swallow.
What he said.
OP - I would only add this - it helped me to calculate exactly how much I had to drink for the day and how often I had to drink. This is what I did:
64 oz divided by 10 hours (most of us are awake a lot more than 10 hours, but think of the other hours as the time you will be eating when you get to the eating normal foods phase) = 6.4 oz an hour. This means that you need to drink 1 ounce every 10 minutes for just over 10 hours. Totally doable.
It will get easier, but at the beginning small goals work best, imo.
Good luck.
Yes, it's all totally normal. I found that herbal tea and broth (not too hot) went down the easiest. It took me quite a while to be able to drink water and at 3 months out I still prefer it at room temperature. Just give it a little time, but remember to sip liquids all day so you do risk getting dehydrated. Even though cold water hurt I didn't have problems with cold Jello or sugar free popsicles. They both counted towards my liquid goals. Good luck and remember it will get easier.
