Quest Bar ? Carb or Fiber how to count
I just bought a Quest Bar because the sales person at Health Nut suggested them.I was wondering if when counting carbs, we are to subtract the fiber and sugar alcohol? When I add it into MFP it is telling me 26 carbs however the package says " only 5g non-fiber Carbs what are your thoughts. I am really scared to eat it since I am now getting my head back into the plan.
I subtract the fiber. I am not sure why other people do not. Sugar alcohol is only for diabetics.
Can someone explain to me why fiber is not subtracted and net carbs are bad?
DON"T EAT IT!!!!!! LOL, ... just my opinion! If you are just getting your head back into the game, have some turkey or salmon jerky instead! I was diabetic before surgery, and you can subtract fiber for the effect on blood sugar, but my personal experience for weight loss is my body still sees those carbs as carbs! I have recently discovered Ostrim Jerkee sticks- 60 calories for a 2 pack, total pack is 3 carbs and 10 protein. If the protein does not outweigh the carbs at LEAST 2:1 I am not going to consider going there!
I have been "stalled" for a month- very little movement at all, working out now two weeks and it is creeping down ever so slowly. I had 5 crappy eating days in this month, like 2 1/2-3 weeks ago.... by crappy I mean 1000 calories and 60 carbs a day....otherwise on plan since then ( avg 700 cals trying to get down to 600 but get protein up to 100, 70 plus fluids trying to get to 100 a day, carbs range between 20-30 but trying to stay under 20)
All I know is, while quest bars are not triggery for me, not like the others that taste more like candy bars, and It takes a much longer time for me to chew them- and the protein is good, 15 carbs or more is too much to spend in my book, when the jerky is 3 carbs no question. The Ostrim sticks come in individual sticks that look like slim jims that are higher, like 80 cals, and I find the texure weird, so I prefer the jerkee flat sticks two to a package (come in teriyaki- good, pepper- good, and other flavors Ive not tried). The jerky is more quantity it seems , lower cals and is beef and ostrich. They sell them at my 24 hour fitness which is where I tried them... will order online from protos.com. They do have nitrites, so I also buy the lowet carb turkey jerky I can find at Whole Foods... like 6 carbs an ounce- so I dont spend those carbs unless I am away from home and cannot have real meat with no carbs. I keep it in the car instead of protein bars.
Just my two cents! Elina posted a homemad e peanut butter protein bar receipe if you look under her profile- have not tried it but all her receipes are awesome, lower carbs than anything store bought.
Just my two cents for getting back on the wagon!
Best of Luck :)
