Polenta
Her reason? "It's grainy, isn't that good?" She thinks almost any grains are good I guess. I didn't even know what it was honestly. I didn't check the nutritional facts because I thought it was just a roll of cheese LOL. I guess I will tell her nicely that I'll pass on it. She was going to make it with sauce and cheese like a parmesan. I wont have it though. I had some steak for dinner and she told me to look up recipes for it, I was like wth is that?
Sigh. I LOVE polenta. I haven't had it since surgery though because I already know it would sit like a rock in my stomach and I can't justify the carb/calories for it right now. Maybe eventually...

This is some nutrition information for the Bellino instant polenta I made for my husband two weeks ago:
Serving Size 1/4 cup (41.7 g)
Calories 140
Calories from Fat 0
Total Carbohydrates 32.0g
Protein 3.0g
Not much protein, tons of carbs. That's why I didn't eat any of it.
Yes, it does sound like your mom is trying to be helpful. Do you have a manual or some printed guidelines from your surgeon which you can have her read over so that she knows what you are supposed to be eating?
That sauce (as low in sugars as possible) with a small amount of reduced-fat cheese over a small piece of unbreaded chicken? That might be something you would like which would be protein-forward.
I love polenta. I love grits! Basically the same thing, but polenta is a little more refined. I did not eat it during WL, but I do make cheesy grits/polenta now on occasion. The cheese adds some protein and fat. I eat it only by the TBS. So, I'll have my protein, my green veggies and 1 or 2 TBS of the polenta. It's a nice change or addition sometimes and not a carby trigger (thank goodness I have one or two carbs that don't trigger me - LOL).
I can't recommend it during WL, though. Sorry. :-(
