I am 4 1/2 months post op and had a somewhat different experience than many of you. When I got my 3 month lab results I was too high in a few areas (vit D, iron, hemoglobin, B-12) and normal in the others. Pre-op some of these areas had been a bit on the low side and my surgeon/NUT had me supplement.
They gave me mega-doses of D (50,000 units a day) and my D got too high. They told me to take a multi with iron and my iron got too high, which can destroy your organs. I am working with a hematologist now, but these issues aren't immediately resolved. My PCP said I seem to absorb things very easily when taking supplements. Yeah, watch your labs and if someone tells you something that doesn't make sense, ask questions. Both my surgeon and NUT told me to keep taking iron even after they saw my labs. When I saw the hematologist he was stunned anyone would say that when my iron count was high. He was very glad I didn't listen and had stopped taking iron immediately.

Going into your first labs just do what you normally do. This way they will know what your "normal" is and can help you adjust from there. Of course, if your doctor says something differently do that!
