A Question about Forum Ettiquette.

Folks,

I generally read and post a simple "Thanks" to anyone who takes the time to address my post. But, it seems somewhat shallow to post a one word answer like "Thanks" back to the person who answers my post. So, what is the best etiquette to use? Should I answer every post extensively or just some of them that call for a reply? Should I not feel bad for not answering some ones comment about a question? What do you guys think?

Jeff

Personally I think a simple thank you should work unless you want to keep the discussion going.  I think everyone knows how appreciative everyone is for the response.  No need to thank me.

I guess I just use the "Thanks" to acknowledge that I have read what someone has taken time to write. But, I don't want to create spam by just adding a bunch of posts that aren't really necessary and filling someone's inbox with spam when my reply was only a "Thanks".

I usually feel bad if I don't at least say thank you to a post. Sometimes a response is not needed though. I don't think anyone gets their feelings hurt. Unless there should be a response; like if they ask a question.

Just the fact that you ask this proves what a considerate and supportive person you are!

That said, I think a simple "Thanks" is fine. Sometimes, no reply is okay, too. It just depends on the post you have made. After being on OH for well over a year, I find that pretty much everyone understands how appreciative most everyone is of the support found here. I never mind not getting a response if I have responded to someone's post. It's okay. When I do ask a specific question of someone, I do like to get a response, but if I don't, I certainly don't take offense.

I personally don't expect a response on every post.  I look at it that if you asked a question, you are going to go back and read the responses but it can become overwhelming to reply to everyone who posts to your question.

I think waiting until a discussion is just about done, one big "thank you to all" is just as polite and efficient.
