THE GAS.....THOUGHT I MIGHT DIE

I didn't have any gas issues immediately following my surgery. Yesterday, 3 weeks out, I got nausea, and as the day progressed the gas got so bad. I was awaken from it at 10:30 from a dead sleep and was driving to the er at 3:30 am. I didn't know it was gas, I thought initially it was something wrong with my sleeve. I left the hospital at 6:30 after being left in a room for 2+ hours with NO one checking on me. And this is after I told them my situation with the surgery etc...Idiots....

What the heck happened to me? Why would I get such intense gas so many weeks out?

Oh wow!  So sorry!  How did they determine then it was gas?  What did they give you?  Are you on a PPI? Maybe take Das-X for a while?  When do you get to talk to your surgeon?

I'm just assuming it's gas since it's slowly starting to feel better and I'm taking gas x regularly. But I left the hospital before they could check me out. I waited 2+ hours, I could have dropped dead in that room and they wouldn't have noticed for hours!! Do you think I should call my dr?

absolutely. You are only 3 weeks out. You need to have it checked out by your surgeon, it could be a leak or beginnings of a leak, or nothing at all, at least you have done due diligence and you can rest easy.

Gas ex doesn't help much with this kind of gas.  Keep your body moving, even from a prone position.  Lie flat on your back and bring your knees up to your chest, then roll from side to side.  Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle!! It just takes time.  I had it for a whole month with my first surgery.  It is really exhausting and was the worst part of my recovery.

Oh and a heating pad wherever it hurts.

I would definitely call you surgeon. They are your support team through this process. Gas pressure can get pretty intense, I had severe shoulder pain in the hospital which I was told was gas pain, I was doing laps around the hospital with no relief. They figured out it was my drain pushing against my diaphragm, so they took the drain out and I was instantly better. Gas X helped me a little but moving helped more. Keep moving, it moves the gas around (I think to release the pressure) but certainly call your surgeon as well.

Good luck!

Call your surgeon NOW. Don't just assume the pain was from gas.

I would not think it would be surgery gas three weeks out that should have worked it's way out by now.  Or are you thinking it is stomach gas.  Are you taking a PPI for acid?  They put us on 2 a day for the first year.  Is the pain on the right, left or right in the center.
