3 month check up
It was a little early. My three months is on the 6th. He said I have lost 28% of my EWL and that I am doing great. He told me 60% is what I should expect to lose with the VGS. I told him I had a goal weight in mind and that is what I am getting to. The sheet they gave me for food was my lifetime plan but for gastric bypass. I found this frustrating. They are a great program but come on seperate sheets for the sleeve would be nice. They want me doing a cup of food at a time and 1000 to 1200 calories getting at least 60 grams of proteins. I get pretty full at half of a cup so not sure about that one. Anyways I look forward to trying new foods. I bought carb quick and plan on making a pizza out some of it. Any suggestion from you vets would be more then welcomed,
I would be wary of carb quick this early out, as well as eating any foods that are not protein, vegetables or healthy fats.
My plan (and yes, they are all different) says to avoid all breads (pasta, rice, starch) for the first year. Why? We have so little capacity that we need to fill it with the most nutritious food possible --which right now, is getting in protein (my plan calls for 70-90 grams of protein) -- and the NUT here doesn't expect people to get to 1000-1200 calories until they are about a year out.
We are told that we have the lowest appetite and stomach capacity for the first six months to a year -- so to make the most of that opportunity.
Breads take up a lot of room (they kind of swell up) --which is why we should avoid them as much as possible. I am very familiar with CarbQuick and used it a lot a few years ago when I followed Atkins. I found that it just made me want more, better bread! So if you do experiment with it, I think you'd be better off waiting until as long as you can. If you must have bread -- I think a super thin piece of toasted multigrain bread (at about 50-60 calories) is a better nutritional choice than CarbQuick.
Pizza -- again, not getting you the best nutritional bang for the calories.
However, I think you are being slightly mislead about the the expectation of losing 60% of your EWL. There are many people here who have lost 100% of their EWL, many by following a low carb approach, and others by following a more diverse food approach. However, I don't believe any of them had the mind set that they would be satisfied with 60% of EWL.
But is Carb Quick pizza on the food plan for gastric bypass? Many of the plans you'll see have almost the same foods for VSG and RNY, just introduced at different times. I'm pretty sure none of the bypass patients I know were instructed to have bread when they were three months out.
There are lots of people on the board who are much more experienced than I am. So I'm sure you'll get lots of input!
Overall, we want to see you successful! I'm just not thinking that CarbQuick will be your best route to success right now. (Plus, it does have some weirdness to it!).
