Juicing

This is not intended to be a "try this and spur your weight loss" type post.  My daughter got a hold of one of those movies about how the American diet is so awful, and she woke up today on a mission to start juicing.  Things have come full circle.  My father decades ago started juicing and was such an advocate bought me a nice juicer (at least for back in the day) despite it costing him far more than he could afford at the time.  I still have it, and over the years dust it off from time to time.  Time to dust again.  Unfortunately I only wrote down a few of my dad's favorite combinations, so anyone out there happen to have a favorite concoction?  My daughter is particularly interested in cleansing out toxins, and I am more into the vitamins and antioxidants.  Carbs are not an issue for me.  If you juice in the morning and take it for lunch, does it lose the nutritional value?

As always, I hope everyone out there is doing splendidly!

One of the most well known juicing movies is Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. They have lots of recipes on their website - rebootyourlife.com

Here's the biggest question - are you getting in the proper amounts of protein with this juice?

I watched it too along with several other food documentaries that freak me out.  Fat, sick, and nearly dead has a Facebook page and website with recipes.  I plan on incorporation juicing into my post VSG life to get in all the macronutrients I would be missing eating so little.  I figure a scoop of unflavored protein powder in it will help make it VSG friendly.

Thank you for the responses.  I have seen the movie mentioned above, but didn't realize there was a Facebook page.  It has been a few days of juicing now and I am loving it.  I had a nasty cough and some lung issues and breathing from a cold that had settled in the chest and didn't budge for weeks- 4 days of juicing and it is gone.  So much better than piling on a bunch of medication.  It totally could be coincidence-  I get that, but for now I am a believer.

To Father Don- I have been in maintenance for a while now, so protein is no issue at all.  I am regularly over 110 grams without issue.  As mentioned in the original post- this was not intended as a "try this and lose weight" type post.  I am just looking for ways to ramp up my nutrition.

My only concern with drinking the juice a few hours later would be oxidation. Do you have a container the right size for you to completely fill it with juice - preferably dark glass?

Once I'm where you are I can see myself drinking fresh juices for the nutrients that I'm trying to get in now through my vitamin tablets. Do you have an idea of he calorie content? If low enough I'll try it sooner.

I drink it fresh normally.  I made too much a few minutes ago, so that will be in the fridge for later. .. I will go change it to a more suitable container.  Thank you for that suggestion!

I have not even attempted to track the calories, as I just make a bunch and dole it out to family members.  That is normally taboo for me... I do track.  For now though I will just monitor my weight to ensure I am not adding pounds.  So far, I have actually lost a bit, but my  weight normally fluctuates from water weight so it is probably just that.  The hubby has lost 5 pounds though.

In the mean time, I am spending a small fortune on produce and really need a bigger refrigerator!
