Just remember it will get better. Broth and warm tea worked the best for me, but SF popsicles and Jello count towards your fluid amounts. Also, I couldn't drink plain water so I had to add something to it like Crystal Lite.  This early out from surgery, your main focus HAS to be getting enough liquids in so you won't get dehydrated. I'm sure you already know that though! Just keep sipping all day long! You can do this! :)

It is your new full time job. I hear it gets easier at some point, but I am at two weeks and still waiting.

It will get easier each day but at 3 months out, I still struggle to get my fluids and protein each day.  Just keep pushing yourself and it will eventually become second nature.  I try not to leave my house without a drink in hand.  I some times forget and that is when I don't get all my liquids in.

Just sip, sip, sip!

Congratulations and welcome to the losers bench.

I just thought I would share my tip on water on the go. I leave some water bottles in the back of my car for either when I forget to grab mine when I leave the house or when one of the kids is thirsty and I don't want to stop and buy them something to drink. I also keep some Crystal Light packets in my purse since I don't like to drink plain water any more. I'm sure my kids would prefer to stop for some pop, but since I don't drink it any more I don't buy it for them either if I can help it! :)

I am 6 days post-op and having trouble getting all my liquids in too.  I have been using a timer and drinking 1 ounce every 15 minutes while I'm awake but I am still coming up a little short of the 64 ounces each day.  Monday I was instructed to add about 20 grams of protein to my liquids and  I have been able to drink some protein drinks but have not been able to get all 20 grams each day.  I'm just trying to focus on getting as much fluids in as possible.  Tomorrow is my post-op exam, hoping the doctor will have some advice.

I am a day and a half out, only got permission to drink liquids this morning after passing my barium test.  I was so excited, but then trying to drink either hurts or makes me nauseous.  I even dry heaved several times this morning after being released on the way to go pick up some anti nausea meds.  Thankfully so far the meds have helped but I'm finding that I'm getting really gassy from drinking.  My tummy is making weird noises and I've even passed gas, though it hurts.  I'm very emotional right now, I'm dehydrated to the point it burns to urinate (a problem I've always had when getting dehydrated) but I honestly can't consume enough liquids now to get hydrated my urine is orange.  So tempted to go to the ER just to get a solid bag or 2 of fluids in me, but I don't know... Just feel like crying but I know that will just make my abdomen hurt more :(

Try drinking luke warm water. At 6 months out, I still prefer it warm rather than cold. It just seems to go down a lot smoother.

For the first 3 weeks, I mainly drank really diluted cranberry juice (about 8:1 ratio) as plain water tasted quite gross to me early out.

It will get better. Just remember than your number 1 priority, over anything else for the moment, is fluids. Just keep sipping away at it all day. Set a timer on your phone to go off every couple of minutes until it becomes a habit.
