So I picked up my medications. I asked the pharmacist if they were ok to take due to the surgery. One of them said I have to take it with food, but I let her know that I can't eat and drink at the same time. (This champion of a doctor put me in for these horse pills.) She asked what it was that he was trying to treat. I told her that I came in for ovarian pain, but he wanted to treat me for a UTI "just in case". She banged her head on the window and told me that the meds he prescribed were NOT for treating a UTI. She said that because she hasn't seen my chart, she can't tell me not to take it, but that it didn't sound right.

CHAMPIONS I TELL YA!!

I'm gonna take a happy pill and go to bed. She was nice enough to give me a pill splitter. She said to try half a pill first since things absorb faster. Nice to know the pharmacist looked after me more than the freakin doctor!

Usually macrobid is standard for a uti. They are capsule form. Rarely ampicillin is used but not as effective.

Doesn't help with the wrong med issue, but my NUT and PA told me I could take pills with a small sip of water with meals when the med specifies to be taken with food.  Don't go crazy and drink a giant gulp, but enough to swallow a pill is fine.

Thanks Sarah, that actually does help. He put me in for doxycycline, metronidazole and tramadol.

He broke out the big guns! Be careful, they may upset your sleeve!

Ohhh they have. I was told to not take them with dairy, so I'm having to find something to coat my sleeve shortly after taking the pills. It's a bit difficult. Seems like a lot for a simple UTI...that I had no symptoms of.

That is a weird drug combo for a uti. Maybe he is trying to treat prophylacticly since you are having surgery????

I have no clue. I haven't even had the chance to talk with my doctor about having the surgery, yet. He was at another hospital delivering babies, so I saw this guy. I really wonder about these doctors sometimes.
