I am 5 days post op and I am not getting enough fluids in. I am afraid I am getting dehydrated I just feel my stomach can not hold 4oz every 15 min. Any suggestions.

that's 4 oz OVER 15 mins, right?  don't try all 4 oz at once.....what i do is hold a sip of liquid in my mouth, then slowly let a little go down, little by little....slowly but surely, you'll get there.   i found chicken broth was easy, and counts as fluids too...and it was tastier than water :)

good luck!  stick to it, it'll get easier.

The chicken broth suggestion above is a good one, just anything -a little at a time all day long. Try different temps. Cool - warm- hot- your tummy might like one over the other. Remember, even sf jello and sf Popsicles count towards your liquids. You can do it, and it will get easier.

I had a sippy cup and just kept little sips of water all the time.  Not to worry, but keep drinking tiny bits at a time.

You are doing fine, don't worry.

I'm 3 days out. My doc has me on 1 oz every 15 min.  I'm using a small medicine cup they gave me in the hospital to measure.  If I stick to the plan that's 64 oz a day. The doc told me he's happy as long as I get 48-64 oz a day.  So far I've headwater, diet ice tea and an Unjury chocolate protein shake. The shake has been the easiest to take.  If you had told mr a year ago it woul take me 3 hours to drink 12 oz of liquid I would have said you were crazy.

Try different temperatures and flavours. I hated water immediately post op, so drank very diluted cranberry juice.

Now Im ok with water, but still prefer it warm. It goes down so much easier for me than cold.

I was instructed to drink 1 oz every 15 minutes and use medicine cups.  The first few days I was not able to get all 64 oz in but its getting better each day.  The last few days I've been able to skip using the medicine cups, now that I have an idea of how much to drink each time.  I was able to get 64-67 ounces in the last two days.

I also was at 1oz every 15 minutes in medicine cups. I drank warm peppermint (decaf) tea. The warm liquid went down much easier, the flavoring helped and the peppermint actually helped sooth my stomach and any nausea I had.
