Define foamies/slime
I have nly experienced this phenomenon twice now. The first was the morning after surgery when I went to brush my teeth. I guess my peppermint toothpaste flavor was just overwhelming for meat the time. My mouth started to water profusely and. Knew immediately that I was going to vomit. When I did, it was just a thick mucus that came up that was kind of bubbly (foamy). It wasn't very much, really only like two small mouthfuls of spit. The second time was right after I tried eating a hard boiled egg for the first time. I think I might have just eaten a bit too much and again I knew right away that I was going to be sick. This time was a it more gross (anyone who has thrown up eggs will understand...). But again it was just like a thick mucus that was somewhat bubbly.
Foamies are caused by eating too fast, eating too much, not chewing your food well enough. In my case, when I eat something my stomach isn't ready for, such as too spicy, too greasy, etc. After surgery, the body no longer produces hydrochloric acid. The body makes up for this by producing large quantities of saliva or mucus and this appears to back up in the esophagus. I think this because I rarely have thrown up the food, only a bubbly, foamy mass. Sometimes, my nose gets a little runny and that tells me, stop eating NOW!!!
So having said that, eat slowly and chew chew chew! I read on another forum that papaya enzyme will help alleviate the foamies but haven't yet done research on that.

Hi: ckpointchickie
Hi: I am not sure if you don't produces hydrochloric acid or it may be less after having surgery. You may have a point there. I want to get more information on this topic.
If anyone has info please post.

To me it's like, you know how the aliens in Alien are covered with that mucousy stringy crap, that's sort of what comes up into my mouth when I get it. It's definitely not foam for me, it's stretchy slimy mucous, it's hard to spit out because it's so stringy it wants to just bungee back up into your mouth. Pretty gross stuff.
Thanks for asking the question...I am 3 weeks out and the same thing happens to me. I am not even on food yet, and can barley get anything down.
I've heard it comes from either over eating your sleeve or dumping. Basically just that. You vomit foam. Kind of like what the foam looks like when an animal has rabies. Yuck! Fortunately hasn't happen to me. I assume you neither since you are asking what it is.
