13 Days Post Op
I am 13 days post op and I am not eating by a 1/2 to 1 oz of food a day. I am getting in my protein via shakes just eat a little and then start to belch, burp and just feel full is this normal?? When will I feel like eating? Will I ever feel like eating again? I could live off my protein shakes I like them.
My surgeon doesn't have me eating until 4 weeks after surgery, so I can imagine it would be tough to get in food at the beginning. From everything I've read, sound pretty normal to me. Just make sure you're getting in your liquids.
Each surgeon has their patients on a little different plan, but it is normal not to be able to eat very much food at this point. My surgeon had me on a clear liquid diet for 10 days, then full liquids for 10 days after that. Pureed foods were next for 10 days, then if I tolerated each of the previous phases, I was put on a regular diet after that first 30 days. Just try to remember you stomach is still healing and possibly still swollen so it will take some time before you feel like eating again. This early out your main focus is to get your protein in (by shakes mostly) and get enough liquids in. It will get easier/better!
My surgeon's office works differently then most, or at least I think so. I had my surgery on Thursday, and I had my first food with other post-opers at our follow up post-op class which was on the next Tuesday. We had refried beans and cottage cheese. I only ate about 4 baby bites in total, but it felt good to have food. We have a modified mushy stage--- our surgeon is encouraging to start eating as normal as possible. With that being said, we definitely still have a lot of restriction. We aren't supposed to eat any red meat for 60 days, and we cant eat things like breads, pastas, oatmeal, or any other "carby" things until after 6 months.
So far, I'm doing great. I'm 8 days post op and I'm eating 3 meals a day (very small), and having a 1/2 protein shake in the morning, and the other half in the afternoon. Also, I'm drinking, drinking, drinking. I'm supposed to be at 64oz everyday, but I'm not there yet. Trying mightily though. I understand not wanting to eat--- I've had the "head" desire to eat things (especially after watching TV commercials!) but my stomach isnt actually really wanting all that much food.
:-)
Hope that helps.
