Slow loser here who is trying to not get depressed.

Maybe I had unrealistic expectations.  Maybe I should stop comparing my weight loss to others.  I am just trying to not become discouraged.  I lost 12 pounds on my two week preop diet.  I then lost 7 pounds the following week after surgery.  Since then, I am 5 weeks out and have only lost 8 pounds the last 4 weeks.  I know that is decent numbers, but the scale has barely moved in the past couple of weeks.  I know that most lose a great deal of weight during the first six months after surgery and then it gets harder.  I thought I would be dropping more steadily.  Fear sets in that I will fail at this, too, and that if it is this slow already, I couldn't bare for it to get any slower.  Depression sets in because I have so far to go and, at this rate, it will take much longer than I had hoped. I just felt like sharing.  I needed to let it out.

There is a stall around week 3,  for me it hit at week 2 and lasted for about 3 weeks,  so you seem normal to me :)    I lost the first two weeks out of surgery and then over the next 4 weeks I only lost like 2 pounds.   Still,  I'm nearly 5 months post op now and if I average my losses out since surgery day I've averaged about 3.5 pounds per week so it will move,  just give it time :)

check with you nut to make shore your following the plan right , weigh everything and track everything exercise as much as you can and the weight will come off

6 months is just a number you can keep losing for the rest of your life , the rny stops working as well after a year or 2 but the sleeve will always work if you stay on plan

have you doctor check that you are not taking any meds that will slow or stop weight loss

I used to take actos and gained 100 lbs because of it, some anti depression meds will make you gain

make shore you are getting your 8+ cups of water a day

and watch out for hidden calories( coffee creamer, mints, gum some sugerfree stuff)

Thanks for taking the time to reply.  I haven't been able to exercise because of a cold, but I am doing much better and plan to start exercising today.  I hope that will help.  I also think I need to speak with my doctor about some medication I am on that can cause blood sugar and cholesterol problems in addition to weight gain.  I am on a small dosage so my doctor hasn't been concerned, but I am willing to try to get off the anxiety/depression med or try something different if it will help.  I am going to ramp up my water intake, too.

It actually sounds like you're hitting one of our famous stalls. It's pretty typical to hit a stall at 3 and 6 weeks post op. We also hit them at random points. It's our bodies' way of adjusting to what is happening to it. I'm considered a lightweight and a slow loser. I'm lucky to lose 8 lbs in a month most of the time. You're right, you do need to stop comparing yourself to others. Just as everyone is different, everyone's weight loss is different. It's not a race. :) Don't give yourself a time goal, but a goal of what you're going to weigh.

What does your food intake look like? Are you tracking on MFP? It's a lot easier to give advice when we know what you're doing.

Thanks for your response.  I will admit that I haven't been logging.  I know that I should and that would be helpful.  However, I can give you an idea of what I eat on a daily basis.  I normally have either an egg and two pieces of turkey bacon, greek yogurt, or a premier protein shake for breakfast.  For lunch, I eat fish or chicken and a few bites of broccoli or some other low carb veggie or a small Wendy's chili.  I may have some fruit and a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter as my snacks during the day.  For dinner, I eat lean beef, chicken, or fish, without any sides.  My doctor and nutritionist have moved me along from the pureed and soft food phases so I know that it may seem unusual to some that I am eating what I am at this point.

You really should get into the habit of weighing your food and logging it,  to make sure you're meeting your protein goals and to know how many calories you're taking in.   Peanut butter is nearly 100 calories per tablespoon for instance,  so if you're doing a few tablespoons a day that's a big chunk of calories right there,  what's your caloric goal?    I highly suggest investing in a kitchen scale and getting an account on My Fitness Pal and logging everything there every day.   Stay accountable.   Also you could get a pedometer or a Fitbit or something like that and challenge yourself to up your steps every day,  just walk a bit more until you're doing 10000 steps per day.

I was logging my food for a couple of weeks and was staying around 600 calories.  I hit a stall so my nutritionist recommended that I up my calories to 1000.  I kind of try to log in my head the caloric intake for the day.  The difficult part is when I eat out I am not exactly sure how many calories I am consuming.  I also own a kitchen scale but haven't really used it.  I have considered a Fitbit and may ask for one for my birthday next month.  Thanks for your advice.

Would you be OK with swapping out that fruit and peanut butter for protein shakes as a snack?  Or even some protein enhanced SF jello or pudding? Peanut butter can have a lot of carbs and fat (depending on if it's jarred or natural) and the fruit has carbs too.

Unless you're eating 6 ounces of protein at lunch or dinner (which is way too big for your sleeve this early out), I don't see how you're getting enough protein for your weight. Get a scale and make sure you weight your protein.

Boost that protein over 80 and see if that helps a bit.  Your medication can be changed as well....there's some anti-depressants that are much less likely to cause weight gain (wellbutrin is good if it works for you).
