Stalling at two weeks post op

So here I am stalling after only two weeks post op.  I lost 12 pounds 9 days post op and none in the last 4.  I went on my liver shrinking diet on March 4th.  I lost 20 pounds in the 2+ weeks before my surgery on March 20th.  I've been following my plan to the letter.  I know how to track carbs very well as I lost 130 pounds on Atkins in the past.

I was on liquids until yesterday, getting 48 -68 oz of water and 40-50 gms of protein in a day. I started pureed yesterday.  I'm weighing and tracking everything.  I got in 600 calories,  hit 70 gram of protein, 23 carbs, 18gms fat and 64 oz of water yesterday and I gained a 1/2 pound!?!  Oh, I'm walking every day for at least 1/2 hour too.

Now, I'm not complaining (well maybe I am).  32 pounds in one month is quite an accomplishment and I understand with that kind of weight loss your body may need to "adjust" but I'd like to know from any of the vets if they hit a stall just 10 days post op and still managed to get to goal or close to gaol.  I'm trying to justify my stall but I'm having a hard time not getting discouraged.

It's all good. Your pause in weight loss seems perfectly normal to me. We all lose differently. Your body is just "adjusting" as you put it. Give yourself some leeway and don't stress about it. A lot of people refer to this period you're going through as "The Three Week Stall".

Here's how it happened for me right out of the gate: I lost 23 pounds pre op and then went to my 2 week post op appointment ( a few days early) and was only down 9 pounds. Dr. sort of shook his head and smiled and said that it would come off - I was just off to a slow start. I was a bit peeved because they pumped me so full of fluid in the hospital I weighed 10 pounds more when I got home than when I went in. I was feeling like down all the fluid weight plus the 9 pounds was great. But to him, it wasn't. Oh well, can't change that. But, by the end of the month I had lost 23 pounds, which made him and me very happy. I had lost 25% of what I still needed to lose in only  1 month.

You are doing everything correctly. I applaud you for doing so well this early out. I have no worries that you will get to goal if you continue on this track!

Not a vet and not at goal, but it's normal.  I hit a stall about that time, lasted for over two weeks, and then I dropped 7lbs in a couple days.  Try not to worry.  You will get to goal if you persevere and are diligent.  It doesn't matter if anyone else does :)

I still have about 50 pounds to goal.  I was sleeved on January thirtieth.  I had a 22 pound pre op weight loss.  In the first two weeks post op I lost another thirty pounds.  Then everything stopped.  For five weeks it stopped.  There were days when I would have stuffed myself with pizza or fried chicken if I could have.  Even though I knew things would get better, there was still the nagging fear that I had done all of this for nothing.  After five weeks of frustration, the stall began to break.  It was slow.  Watching ice melt slow.  I have managed to lose fourteen pounds since then.  I have been able to go from walking to lap swimming and strength training in the past two weeks.  That seems to have kick started things again.

I have only subjected you to my story because you seem to be having a similar experience.  I suspect from my reading here that there are some of us who tend to lose weight in large surges and long stalls.  It's more difficult to lose weight like that.  We have more days when the scale doesn't budge, or goes backwards a little.  In the end the weight does go away.  We just need to accept that we may be subjected to this repeated pattern.  The days when the scale does move are all the more sweet.

Stay the course.  You will win the battle.  Best of luck with your journey.

I'm not a vet, but since I just went through this, I'll respond. I stalled from the middle of week two until the end of week six. I hardly lost any weight. I just kept at my same plan and now, at least for the time being, I'm back to losing between a half pound and a pound and a half a day. You're doing great. Keep it up!

I'm not a vet but I'd get way more water in & a lot more protein. I had a stall after 10 days post-op that lasted 2 weeks. This coming Monday I will be 6 weeks post-op & as of today I'm down 52 lbs.

No worries!  I'm pretty sure I hit my stall a week after surgery!  I stalled for a about 4 days and then started losing again.  I lost 15 in the week before surgery and have lost right about 10 since surgery and I'm 2 1/2 weeks out now.  I hope it starts going a bit faster, but I am starting to notice clothes fitting better and getting bigger so I can't complain much.  Hang in there!
