Gallbladder removal, continual pain, depression...anyone??
Hey all...
Just wondering if anyone has any similar experiences or advice on anything. I have now lost like 122 pounds since surgery. Whoo-hoo! The gallbladder started failing me around Thanksgiving - I had five episodes of can't-get-off-the-ground horrible pain. The fifth one was like two 1.5 hour ones back to back and I finally went to the ER. A week later I made the appointment to get the surgery. Surgery happened 2 weeks ago.
Three days later I was overcome with horrible stomach pain and then chest pain too. Went to the ER and was admitted for three days b/c of the awful pain. It was horrible. The pain meds hadn't worked and they think my pain caught up with me, I over did it, we've had a ridiculous couple months and everything just caught up with me at once. Plus I might have had a gallstone pass through the duct - but it wasn't there after the tests anyway. And then I think I had an awful anxiety attack on top of everything else.
And now I am still in pain - 2 weeks later...stomach pain. Not the runs or anything like they say can happen...just this non-descript, can't eat a thing, awful lingering pain. And it seems I am really battling some major depression too.
I am really wondering a couple things...
Have you experienced pain following gallbladder removal?
Have you struggled with depression after surgery? I have been involved in counseling for about 2 years - I started in the process before I got my VSG. And I have certainly had ups and downs along the way. But I am thinking I need to see the doctor and get some medication. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience.
Sorry it's so long and rambly...thanks.
I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. I still have my gallbladder, so I'm no help there. I'd contact your doctor about the pain--it seems to me that it either is normal and they can give you something for it or it's not normal and he or she should see you.
Do call your therapist. It may help with the depression. But really, if you can fix the pain problem, that will probably help your mood, too.
So sorry to hear the problems you are having!! I am 3 weeks post gall bladder removal and 4mo post VSG. I had 1 attack with a gall bladder, at the time I had no idea what was happening, it was over 30 min long. Called my surgeon and a few days later I was in for surgery. I do not have that stomach pain as you have, or any pain. I do get the runs immediately after I eat anything when I had an empty stomach- mostly in the mornings when I have breakfast. He didnt warn me about that, so I asked him what was happening when I had my post op appointment. They suck but its quick.
5 days post VSG I myself was in the hospital, I was feeling GREAT, long story short and 6 hours into an ER visit turns out I was being attacked by anxiety I didnt know I had! It hit me all at once, literally. I was in the shower and almost passed out, had to get a ride to the ER.
For depression: I am not depressed, but I do notice that not taking my vitamins in over a month (YES I AM BAD) I feel differently, i feel a little run down, always tired- even if I get a good night's sleep. Are you keeping up with vitamins? Not sure if that has to do with it, but I notice for myself it's made a difference by not taking them.
I'm actually writing in hopes You can help me now. I'm in the exact same place you were.
Had my surgery May 1 then Sept 11th had to have my gallbladder out. 2 weeks later and I'm in pain. saw th doctor yesterday who informed my .. since I had 2 major surgery withing 5 months he would expect me to be in pain. - can't sit for any length of time (which is difficult due to my job). Take percocet but very little relief. not sure if this is surgery pain or gas discomfort. (taking gas x as well.. AND milk of magnesia to counter act the percocet side effects) ....
how are you now? and how long did your pain last ??
I'm down 88 lbs.. and very happy about that.. but currently .. ouch -- need to go back and lay down
