Have to call the surgeon's office

I'm not holding food down very well anymore. I took ONE bite of chicken, which I usually tolerate very well, and had a sharp pain in my stomach. I, got the foamies shortly after, and well, you know what happens next. This has been going on for 3 days now. I'm only getting in my protein via shakes.

Last night, at the meeting, my NUT actually told me that 800 calories was way too low. I was also told to forget about counting carbs and fats. Do whaa?? Everyone there was beyond shocked to see that I had dropped almost 70 lbs in 4 months. He said that's it's coming off too fast. Mmmmkay. I have to make an appointment with him as well, but first things first. This. **** SUCKS!

Just called them. Since it's spring break/ golf week here in good ole Augusta, GA, there's NO surgeons or nurses in the office until Monday. She stopped me mid sentence and said if I can't take it anymore, I need to go to the ER. *headdesk*

you MIGHT be having esophageal issues.  My friend from my surgeon's group is having a LOT of trouble with her esophagus and cannot keep any solids down.  She had VSG and her gallbladder removed almost a year ago but she also had TWO lapbands and a plication previously so she had a lot of problems with puking.  I would say take it easy with solids right now...stick to scrambled eggs, shakes, and soups.  I know it sucks but you don't want to cause more damage and hopefully your doc will see you soon.

Yeah, all NUTS seem to be this way.  My NUT wanted me to go up to 1000 calories and told me also not to worry about protein and carbs, etc.  I'm just doing my own thing since it's working so who cares what the NUT thinks?  lol  Keep doing you and I hope you get better soon!

Yeah I'm not even going to pretend I know what's going on with it. I don't even play a doctor! lol I'm just going to do like you said, easy on the solids until Monday. As far as the NUT goes, I think I'm going to stick with if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Especially if I can't keep solids down, right now. I'm not about to go get a milkshake just because I need to "up my calories". He wants me in the 1200 range.

I hope you feel better soon.  Is there any way they can reach out to your surgeon even though he's not in the office?  Can you push to just have a phone call?  :(

Unfortunately, no. My surgeon was active duty and is deployed, so I'd have to see a whole new surgeon. Right now, they're all on leave. Which means no one calls them, even for these situations. :(

Well that just sucks!  Hopefully the next few days will go quickly for you.  The NUT?  I am staying as low on calories as I can until I can't handle it any more.  I just think it is so stupid that they are more concerned about the number of calories instead of what you are eating.  Dense protein keeps me fuller longer and I don't want to eat extra carbs (other than my popcorn enlightened) to just get extra calories in.  I don't feel deprived.

Sorry to hear that you are having some issues with keeping foods down.  That reminds me of my days with the LapBand.  No fun.  Hopefully, it's nothing serious.

As far as the NUT, mine is pretty much the same.  She does not want me going below 800 calories for any reason.  I talked to my surgeon about it and explained that my metabolism is so dang slow, if I don't shock it with really low calories I don't seem to lose weight.  He agreed to condone that as long as I drank a protein shake to keep my protein up.

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that. Go to your shakes, add extra protein. Do what feels better for you! After all, I remember what you told me.. "listen to your body". Go back to the eating basics and please, if you feel in a lot of pain- don't wait and go to the ER.

Feel better!

Please keep us posted...
