How long did you wait for insurance approval and surgery date?
A week from today I complete my last required NUT visit, then I will be submitted for insurance approval. It's been 7 long months but we're hitting the home stretch. Just curious, after you had dotted all your i's and crossed all your t's for the insurance folks, how long did it take for them to approve you? I have Aetna and they have suggested 2-4 weeks for approval. And then second question, how long did you have to wait for your doctor to schedule your surgery?
I'm getting excited, and nervous! That said, a close friend of mine had the RNY a week ago today and she's doing so great. I cannot wait to join her and all of you on the loser's bench!

I was submitted for approval last week Monday and received approval last week Thursday. I have GHI which is a branch of Emblem Health. I have a surgery date of May 14th but that is going to have to be postponed a few months due to needing knee surgery on an ACL tear I got last week. Sucks.
They say they have 14 business days to approve but my approval was done within 24 hours but the info did not get to me for 3 business days. This was all around Thanksgiving, the scheduling nurse called me the next day and I was scheduled. I new the day I wanted my surgery so I did not take the first available, I just requested the day I wanted. I wanted to be able to use the XMAS holiday to recoup if I needed it without taking time off of work.
I thankfully did not need to get an approval with my insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan).
As long as I met the criteria (which I did) and as long as I followed the requirements of the bariatric program from my surgeon, then I was pre-approved.
I just met with my surgeon for the final time this past Friday and I am scheduled for May 28th. I am one of the lucky ones who didn't have to deal with any denials.

My paper work was sent to Smarthealth on Wednesday April 10th and I was approved today. The nurse called my within 30 minutes and set my surgery date up. She said can you do April 29th???? I was like YES!! So I have to start my liquid diet ASAP! I am having my surgery at Baptist in Nashville. Good Luck!
I called insurance everyday to make sure they got the paperwork and to check the status of my approval. I was approved in 3 days, then I followed up with my dr's office once I was to schedule surgery. My surgery was scheduled out for 6 weeks because my surgeon only does surgeries on Fridays but it went by fast!
Good luck!
