As of right now 5k is my only ambition. Not sure I see distance running in my future but even after I start running 5Ks I will still run 30-45 mins per day. Who knows maybe I will get ambitious after I my first 5K. I was surprised how easy 10 to 20 mins was last week and then this week 35 was tough but doable. I don't really like running but once I set my mind to something not finishing it is not an option.

And a very good NSV.  My son who is 29 ran his first 5k on March 30th (I was set to do it but torn a muscle in my foot 2 weeks before the race) and finished in 33 minutes so you did quite well.

I think that is awesome! I am seriously considering doing the couch to 5K. I tried week 3 last night on the elliptical and it kicked my a$$, in a good way. Once I can do it on the elliptical, my husband and I are going to take it to the road. He is a Marine and my dream has always been to run the Marine Corps marathon (okay maybe start with their 5K next spring or their 10K next fall....). Why not give it a try, right?!?

Absolutely give it a try! yes definitely take in on the road. I was walking/running on a treadmill at first and once I hit the road it was significantly more difficult. It doesn't seem like it would be but gravity is a *****

That's great C25K is a great program. that is how i got started.

You've only been running 7 weeks and just ran a 5K in 35 min! I'd say that's pretty damn good! Very impressive!! Congrats!!!

I've been with a personal trainer for three months, started jogging (4 mph) about 6 weeks ago I"ve never been a jogger/runner and didn't even know I had it in me). To test myself out, I jogged 1.5 miles the other day (4.2 miles/hour). I'm signed up for a 5K in June, my trainer is going with me. I think I'll be at like 50 minutes...maybe it'll be less by then by I'm jealous of your 35 minutes!

It works if you work it; it sorta works if you sorta work it; and it doesn't work if you don't work it.

Congratulations!!  What a marvelous accomplishment.  Mind if I ask how you did it?  Did you follow a program or just get up & get moving?  I figure seven weeks will come and go, might as well have a goal!!

I used Active C25K app on the iPhone, It is great and the program is perfect just when you think you can't do the next work out you surprise yourself by doing it. The guy who put the C25K program together really got it right.

I had to do week 3 twice but that seems to be the wall, everything after that came pretty easy.

A lot of it is get up and moving. Before I decided to do the C25K program I was doing 30 to 60 mins of cardio every day or at least every other day. I was doing 60 on non-strength days and 30 to 45 on strength days.

At the very least start with 15mins of walking in the morning and 15 mins in the evening and you will be surprised at the end of just one week what happens to your metabolism.
