Make up prom
So this weekend was law prom (formally known as the barrister's ball). I found myself getting strangely excited about the proposition.
My first and only formal dance in highschool, senior prom, was more of a formality than fun. I tried on the small selection of prom dresses in the plus size and found the least horrifying one. To be fair, it was perfectly nice, just nothing "prom-dressy" was going to cover my arms or give me a waist. It just wasn't as much fun shopping for the clothes I could wear. I did not have a date, so I went with a group of girls. I especially remember the girl driving us got a speeding ticket on our way to dinner! Prom was meh...just standing around knowing I wasn't going to get danced with. I did it so that I would not regret not doing it.
This weekend was different. I pored over dress options, delighting (delighting...yes...delighting) at the reality of trying them all on. I did not really want to spend the money to buy the dress I loved, at $200 (after all, I'm in law school and poor!). But a few days later I found that very dress had been marked down 65% off!! It was meant to be! Fiance and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at a steakhouse, went to "law prom" where we played fake table games, danced, and drank (heck yes better than prom!). But most of all I felt like the princess I should have always felt like. Thanks, life, for second chances.
