With any surgery, you must stop caffeine. I had a 24 ounce coffee every morning before my sleeve surgery. I tried to cut back using decaf but hated it! I was able to stop easily by just cutting back on the amount I was drinking each morning until I got down to a half cup and finally did not have a regular cup of coffee again until I was about 2 and a half months out. I asked my surgeon and he said I could drink it if I could tolerate it. I'm 4 months and 10 days out and I tolerate it fine. Good luck with your surgery!!!

My doctor requires giving up caffeine so that his patients do not have severe caffeine withdrawal post-op.

Some also believe it contributes to dehydration.

I don't know why you would be told to NEVER again have it though.
