Sacrificing weight for the greater good

Well, today is the day, I guess. We're quitting smoking. Horrible freaking timing since I'm stressing about Midget Girl's health, plus that TOM. BUT, I'm not going to make excuses as to why I can't quit. I've played that game before.

It wasn't intentional. Hubby knew that he was quitting since he has all of his acupuncture and support going on this week. They couldn't get me in. Grrrreat! After our morning stresses of getting the girls dressed, Midget off to school, talking with her teacher, and attempting to drop off meds with her nurse, I wanted to hit the shoppette (gas station on post) for a pack of smokes. "I've EARNED it," I told myself. I get inside, just to realize that I didn't have my military ID on me. You can't buy things, especially cigs or alcohol without the military ID proving you're active duty or dependent, so I went home. Just to frantically search and find it wasn't here. CRAP! I must have left it in hubby's truck last night. I drive across post to the hospital where hubby is having physical therapy. Luckily, he parks in the same area everyday, so it wasn't hard to find the truck. So I hop out and start the hunt. My ID wasn't there either. FOOOOOOOOK, he was bein a responsible hubby and put it in his wallet so no one would take it. Dammit dammit dammit! I get back home and dig around to find our e-cigs. Eh, better than nothing. I charge it up in anticipation. Not of the nicotine, but of having something in my hands when I'm on the phone, and well, when I get bored.

I've already accepted that this week was going to suck. I'm having one hell of a time between the constipation, pain from migraines, TOM, and now quitting. I'm not giving myself a free pass to eat whatever the hell I want, whenever I want. I'm just letting myself have this week to not beat the **** out of myself for giving into the beckoning of a couple pita chips when I want a smoke. I expect a 3 lb gain during the journey of quitting. It took me 2 weeks to quit last time. A week to get the nicotine out of my system, and another week to change the habits. The e-cig I have doesn't have the nicotine filters or anything. I'm just puffing air and water.

Wish me luck folks. Hubby's worried that I won't make it to this evening before breaking down and getting a pack. Let's see if I can prove him wrong. :)

I know it's expensive, although not more expensive than the cigs, but you should get the patch. While you are on it your body thinks you are continuously smoking so you don't feel stress. Then you wean yourself off the patches six weeks later a little at a time once you are off the cigs and voila, stress free smoking cessation.

When I quit 13 years ago I didn't turn to food when I quit, because I had the patch. Give it a try.

Thanks. I've tried the patches before, but I'm allergic to it. Hubby's also had them and they didn't work for him. Sadly, for me, the only way out is cold turkey. I know I can do this. I did it last July. I have to do it now.

I quit cold turkey too...you most certainly can do this!  I had quit for several months, had really bad withdrawal, went back for a year or two, then decided to quit cold turkey again. The 2nd time was much less traumatic than the first.  Like you said you know you can do it, you did it before!

Sending positive energy and strength your way!!

Check with the Lung Association or you medical insurance.  Both should offer some type of smoking cessation classes.  You can do it cold turkey but you don't have to do it alone.

I've gone through the classes before. That's when they tried me on Chantix. I kind of went nuts. lol Well, more nuts than usual. I'm just lucky that I have my hubby quitting with me this time. Last time, he wasn't ready, so I had the temptation of him smoking. We don't smoke inside or around the kids, due to asthma, and well, I don't want the kids smelling like an ashtray. That's something that I grew up with. I've been hanging onto the e-cig, but it hasn't been too bad today. I still go outside, just for the habit of the fresh air, but I haven't really NEEDED it. :)

"Quitting is easy. I did it thirty times. The real trick is staying quit."

Thought I'd share the old cliche. I knew you would enjoy it.
